Joyce Hett

Joyce Hett, 72, of Marion, died July 26, 2005, near Newton.

Born Nov. 10, 1932, at Wichita, she was the daughter of Paul and Evelyn (Remmers) Keazer.

The family moved from Wichita to Sedgwick, then to Marion in 1941.

She was a 1950 graduate of Marion High School. She worked at the Marion County Courthouse, then attended one year at Emporia State University.

She married Richard Janzen and the couple lived on a farm north of Hillsboro. They worked several years as part of a contract caged-layer egg program and raised and sold basset hounds.

She later was a secretary at Tabor College, Hillsboro.

In 1979, she married Russell Hett. The couple lived north of Canada, and were members of Aulne United Methodist Church, of which she was church secretary for many years.

In 1986, they purchased and operated Holiday Motel at Florence, until their retirement in 1997, when they moved to Marion County Lake.

She was a member of Florence Chamber of Commerce and served as chairman of the annual Easter egg hunt. She was a member of the standards board, historical society, and as treasurer and president of the Florence Library Board.

After Russell's death, she moved to Marion in 1999, where she belonged to Neo Century Club, St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary, Bunco Club, and Aulne UMW.

Survivors include three sons, Herb Janzen of Mulvane, James and Connie Janzen of Wichita, and Martin and Brenda Janzen of Oakley; three stepsons, Dennis Hett of Manchester, N.H., Mel and Damaus Hett of Hunter, Okla., and Stan and Denise Hett of Wichita; two sisters, Pauline and Nancy; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Aulne United Methodist Church with Pastor Beth Ann Black officiating.

Wanda Williams was organist.

Casket bearers were Tristan Janzen, Jason Janzen, Michael Janzen, Paul Kastor, David Poe, and Kevin Poe.

Honorary casket bearers were Tyler Janzen, Nathan Janzen, and Ben Hett.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds were established with Aulne United Methodist Church or Marion City Library.
