Julia Zeiner is one to watch

I don't know Julia Zeiner. Never even met her.

Still, I'm going out on a limb, albeit a short one, and saying she will be one of the most decorated athletes to walk the halls of Marion High School.

I can't say she will be the best ever. For one thing, two people could argue forever about who is the best, but also because I have only lived here for two years. I don't know the history of all former Warrior athletes.

But her name won't soon be forgotten.

Did I mention she's a freshman?

I missed out on most of her basketball and volleyball seasons, but from what I heard (and the little I saw) they were impressive.

While typing the track stats for the sports section I'm constantly inserting a first place by her name in multiple events.

Watching her on the track, it's easy to tell sports come natural to her. Competing a great deal at the varsity level in all three sports only will help make her a better athlete.

But something else, out of her control, might help her even more: she has great athletes around her.

Her class and surrounding classes have a lot of talent, and the more there is to go around, the better everyone will be.

This might be a lot of pressure for an athlete who hasn't even finished one year of high school, but it's one she can live up to.

All great athletes compete well under pressure. It's what makes them great. Pressure doesn't exist for them. It's all in another day's work.

The regional track meet May 18 could say a lot for the future of a young lady who could earn enough accolades during her career to make JuliAnne Chisholm jealous.

It will be the first time she is put on the line to really perform. If she does, the state tournament, and the rest of her athletic career, could be a cinch.

I think she will pass with flying colors. With the limited amount of time I've seen her in action that is a bold statement.

But it also means if I think that, this must be preaching to the choir for her friends, family, and coaches.
