Just do it!

The holidays are quickly approaching and people are spending more time on roadways.

This is a friendly reminder to drivers and riders to wear safety belts.

We all know the statistics of people being thrown from vehicles in rollover accidents when not buckled in.

More powerful than statistics, are the number of accidents I've covered as a reporter, where seat belts saved lives or could have if worn.

Every excuse in the world has been made not to wear seat belts — "they're too tight, they're too loose, they're too confining."

I used to be one of those people who didn't think I needed to be buckled in. And when I did buckle up, it was highway driving when I was driving faster.

When I was a teen and young adult, I even went so far as to think that those who wore seat belts weren't safe drivers. I didn't need to wear one because I was a safe driver.

Now a lot older and not sure how much wiser, I realize safe drivers have collisions.

When a person gets into the habit, it feels odd not to wear a seat belt. It takes a few times of clicking it to get into the habit, but it's well worth the effort.

If personal safety isn't enough of a reason, just remember it's the law. Law enforcement is cracking down on offenders every chance possible. So, it's not worth the fine and the hastle.
