Kansas Day celebration includes Custer s wife

Marla Matkin will present a characterization of Elizabeth Bacon Custer, George Custer's widow, at noon Sunday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, 105 Eastmoor Drive, Marion, during annual Kansas Day recognition.

Matkin will provide a unique vantage point in telling the compelling stories of the Civil War, the 7th Calvary, Kansas Plains, Little Bighorn, and Custer.

Extensively researched, it is a blend of history and drama. The life and times of the Custers emerge from the pages of history as Matkin presents a first-person account of Mrs. Custer.

Matkin has performed at the Smithsonian, Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Fort Laramie National Historic Site, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and locations throughout Kansas.

Reservations are required. Call Janet Bryant at (620) 382-3418. Cost of the meal and presentation is $12 per person.
