Centre USD 397 board of education met Jan. 23 to select a superintendent/K-4 principal from among the four candidates they interviewed earlier.

They selected Jerri Kemble of Herington. She will take over from Superintendent Bob Kiblinger, who is resigning after three years with the district.

Her two-year contract will begin July 1. She will receive a compensation of $76,000 plus single Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance coverage.

Kemble graduated from Herington High School in 1979. She received a teaching degree from Emporia State University, after which she did some substitute teaching in the Centre school district.

She spent 13 years as a teacher at Herington Middle School before going back to college to get a master's degree in counseling.

She became a counselor in the Chapman school district, where she served for five years under the Kansas Principal of the Year.

In 2003, Kemble was named Kansas Counselor of the Year.

After earning certification in administration, she served as principal of three small elementary schools in the Chapman school district, a position she currently holds.

She is in the process of getting a doctorate from Kansas State University and is finishing up her credentials for superintendent licensure.

Kemble has two children, an 11th grade daughter and a seventh grade son.
