Klassen, Wick, Schneider win mayoral positions in local races
Primary election results for city and school positions were determined Tuesday.
Unofficial results of the Florence mayor race between declared candidate Susan K. Klassen and write-in candidate Josh Inlow were Klassen winning with 111 votes to a total of 75 write-in votes. A final tally of votes for write-in candidates will be divulged Friday when Marion County Commission canvasses election results.
Winners of other contested positions were:
Goessel city councilmen are Larry C. Lindeman and Larry D. Schmidt, both incumbents.
Lincolnville mayor is David L. Schneider Sr. Lincolnville councilmen are Sylvia M. Bailey and Greg A. Hubbard.
Peabody city councilmen are Edmond N. Slocombe and incumbent Tim Peterson.
Ramona mayor is incumbent Pat Wick. Ramona city councilmen are Jeanette "Jeannie" L. Weber (I), Jayme Linn Brunner (I), Arthur E. Stroda, Kathy A. Werth (I), and Lola "Angel" Harold (I).
Centre USD 397, position 5 board member is Brent G. Methvin.
Goessel USD 411, position 5 incumbent Dewayne Voth won with 471 votes.
The constitutional marriage question received a resounding 2,769 votes in favor of recognizing marriages between one man and one woman and 629 against.
A one-half of one percent sales tax was passed overwhelmingly by Hillsboro residents 630 yes to 253 no. Revenue from the sales tax increase will fund public recreational facilities which could include an aquatic park.

Durham: Mayor Glennon Crowther (I) 31. Councilmen (five positions) Gary D. Unruh (I) 31, Verlin L. Sommerfeld (I) 28, Michael Sorensen (I) 28, Steven B. Miller 27, and Anna Mae Goertz 25.
Florence: Mayor Susan E. Klassen 111, write-in candidates 75. First ward councilman Randy B. Mills (I) 75, second ward councilman Bryan L. Harper 80.
Goessel: Mayor Peggy Jay (I) 162. Councilmen (two positions) Larry C. Lindeman (I) 126, Larry D. Schmidt (I) 103, and Joel J. Ratzlaff 70.
Hillsboro: Mayor Delores Dalke (I) 767. East ward councilman Matthew O. Hiebert (I) 432, west ward councilman Leonard Coryea (I) 366.
Lehigh: No candidates filed for office.
Lincolnville: Mayor David L. Schneider Sr. 41, Victor D. Burns (I) 21. Councilmen (two positions) Sylvia M. Bailey 49, Greg A. Hubbard 39, and V. Gail Burns 24.
Lost Springs: No candidates filed for office.
Marion: Finance commissioner Larry McLain (I) 439.
Peabody: Mayor Tom Schmidt 253. Councilmen (two positions) Edmond N. Slocombe 232, Tim Peterson 151, and Jon Gard (I) 88.
Ramona: Mayor Pat Wick (I) 23 and Edith "Connie" Smith 13. Councilmen (five positions) Jeanette "Jeannie" L. Weber (I) 23, Jayme Linn Brunner (I) 22, Arthur E. Stroda 20, Kathy A. Werth (I) 22, Lola "Angel" Harold 18, Reign Anduss (I) 17, Nathan A. Bailey 17, Robert W. Brady 16, Judith A. Gratz 6.
