KNF officials meet in Peabody

Officers and board members of Kansas Newspaper Foundation held their December meeting Friday at Peabody.

They were escorted through the Peabody Printing Museum by former Peabody publisher Bill Krause and his brother, Prof. Gail Krause of El Dorado.

Doug Anstaett, executive director of Kansas Press Association made opening remarks and thanked Peabody for being a gracious host.

Ken Bronson, Topeka, presided at the meeting. He thanked Bill Meyer and Susan Marshall for making arrangements for the meeting.

Guests present included Carol Bland, former co-publisher of Wyandotte West and Piper Press; and Marcella Bruce, Hillsboro, former co-publisher of the Hillsboro Star-Journal.

Sen. Richard Gannon, Topeka, director of governmental affairs for Kansas Press Association, provided information on legislative issues.

Directors present included Prof. Les Anderson of Wichita State University's Elliott School of Journalism; Howard Kessinger, publisher of the Marysville Advocate; John Montgomery, editor and publisher of the Hays Daily News; John Lewis, publisher of Lewis Legal News, Inc., Olathe; Susan Lynn, editor and publisher of the Iola Register; Emerson Lynn, retired editor and publisher of the Iola Register; Murrel Bland, retired publisher of the Wyandotte West and Piper Press; and Bill Meyer of Marion, president of Hoch Publishing Co. Inc., which owns newspapers at Peabody, Hillsboro, and Marion.

A home-cooked lunch was served at noon, along with apple cider and sour cream apple pie.

The meeting and lunch were held in the historic Morgan House.
