Lady Cougars victorious at Solomon

Centre High School volleyball team defeated Bennington Sept. 14 in two games and Solomon in three to win the triangular played at Solomon.

In the match against Bennington, the team served 22 of 25 in game one and won, 25-19. They served 23 of 24 in game two and won, 25-12.

Jackie Klenda delivered 10 successful spikes, five kills, and one block. She also had three aces. She was followed by Megan Gutsch with eight spikes, two kills, and three blocks. Jill Fenkse had seven spikes and two kills, along with one ace.

Brianne Stahlecker set the ball 20 of 20, six for a kill. Selena Seifert was six of six, two for a kill.

The Lady Cougars lost the first game against Solomon, 25-19. They followed with two wins, 25-21 and 25-16.

Fenske was strong on the front line. She spiked the ball 27 times. Klenda and Gutsch each contributed 19 spikes and Kylie Burhoop added nine.

Individual aces were: Klenda, three, Burhoop, two, and Stahlecker, one. Stahlecker set the ball 62 times, 19 for a kill. Alisha Luna set the ball 11 times, four for a kill, and Seifert set it 10 times, one for a kill.

The team's record as of Monday stood at 6-4.

The junior varsity followed in the varsity's footsteps, defeating Solomon in two games 25-23 and 25-15, and Bennington in three games, 25-21, 20-25, and 25-11.
