Lake improvements noted
Marion County Lake Superintendent Steve Hudson provided a list of accomplishments to Marion County Commission that were reviewed Monday by the governing board.
Completed projects included:
— Adding 65 tons of sand on main beach area.
— Improvements at the east shelter house that included the replacement of a commode, roof repairs, and repainting of benches.
— Twelve trees were planted.
— Eight large rocks were placed for seating and decoration.
— Repainting projects included trash containers, the exterior of the lake hall, trim on outhouses, sign posts, merry-go-round, electric outlets, heated dock, privacy dividers in bathrooms, and interior of bait shop.
— A drinking fountain was repaired as was a street light by the heated dock.
— New camp sites were established.
— Three new fishing piers were built.
— Rip-rap was placed along shoreline for stabilization.
— New camping permits were designed.
— New signs were erected regarding curfew notices and swimming warnings.
— Benches were replaced on the heated dock and in changing rooms at beach area.
— A horseshoe pit was made at the north shelter house with new lights and electricity.
— Outhouses were cleaned and painted.
— Two plastic structures were placed in the water by the heated dock and 11 around the lake for fish habitat.
— The heated dock floor was repaired, shelves were built, and skirting replaced.
— A new dock was made at the south boat ramp.
— A new water pump was installed at the fish cleaning station at the heated dock.
— Established a new addressing system for trailer residences.
— Upgrade of a defibrillator and new first-aid kit.
— A stage/sun bathing platform was built by the beach area.
— A generator was installed at the lake hall.
Future projects include:
— A bathroom near the heated dock.
— Twelve new camp sites with electricity and water.
— Insulating the lake hall for year-round use.
— Three fishing piers with handicapped accessibility.
— Plant additional trees.
— New floor at heated dock.
— Purchase former improvement district maintenance building.
— Remove and install new siding at lake office.
— Replace wood planks on picnic tables.
— Additional tornado shelter.
