Legion auxiliary holds organizational meeting

A joint informational meeting of the James William Miesse American Legion Post 22, the American Legion auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and the Patriot Riders was held Feb. 26 at the Marion VFW post home.

Gary Chaput introduced the speakers for the evening. After the informational meeting, the four groups met separately and membership was completed for each of those present.

The organizational meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary was called to order by the district president.

New charter members are Diane Carpenter, Mary Costello, Amanda Gardner, Vicki Hoffer, Ann McLinden, Cheryl Silhan, Lori Smith, Kay Steele, Luretta Turk, Tomi Weeaks, and Whitney Wilson.

Transferring membership from other posts were Karen Chaput, Lanissa Hammond, Virginia Hammond, Audrey McLinden, and Peggi Wilson.

The new members were initiated into the auxiliary with an impressive candle lighting ceremony by the district officers.

Officers were elected and installed. They are Karen Chaput, president; Virginia Hammond, first vice president; Lanissa Hammond, secretary; Peggi Wilson, treasurer; Kay Steele, chaplain; Diane Carpenter, historian; and Audrey McLinden, sergeant-at-arms.

Money was collected for new membership. A donation of $10 by the district president was sent to Topeka for registration of the new charter. Additional new members may be included on the charter if they join within 30 days.

It was decided that meetings will be held at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.

The next meeting was scheduled for March 11 at the home of Karen Chaput. Those eligible and interested in joining the American Legion auxiliary is encouraged to attend the meetings.
