Letter: Helpful community

To The Editor

I've been a recent visitor to your city in search of genealogical records for my great-great-grandparents, John Kraft and Angelina Kraft, nee Hermance.

I was able to locate many records for the family, but what I found as well were the wonderful citizens who work and reside in Marion. I would like to name a few of the people who I had an opportunity to have the privilege of making their acquaintance.

Cynthia Blount at the Marion Historical Society. With her knowledge, as well as documentation, I was able to locate numerous papers regarding the family, including where the family resided in Mud Creek. Faye, at the courthouse, assisted in finding land records for me when she was extremely busy that day. I didn't get the name of the lady who assisted in the county clerk's office, but I'm sure she'll know who she is. Wonderful young lady who made copies of documents that she had helped me to locate. Ray, at Tabor College, was very helpful with much history, and it was his day off.

My husband and I camped at the reservoir. The night before we left we had a flat tire and due to a medical condition, my husband was unable to change the tire. Melissa Brunner, park ranger, contacted many places attempting to get a towing service to assist. We were unable to get help that evening, but she said that maybe when her assistant came on duty he might give us a hand. Aaron Waddell, sheriff's deputy, and Melissa showed up around 7:30 p.m. He changed the tire with her help (she held the flashlight). Due to their kindness we were able to get to a tire place in the morning, have the tire repaired, and be on the road by 9 a.m.
