First tournament

is a success

To the Editor:

The first Marion Firecracker Fast-pitch Tournament was held Saturday in Marion. It brought 12 teams from the surrounding area including Hutchinson, Chapman, Hillsboro, Pomona, Strong City, Cottonwood Falls, Newton, El Dorado, Hesston, and Marion for an all-day round-robin tournament and home run derby.

The event was a huge success, due to the number of people who helped.

Gate workers were Martin Tice, Mitchell and Marshall Ragland, Mike and Judy Powers, and Janice Waner.

Concessions were handled by Cindy, Mitchell, and Marshall Ragland and Chris and Kathy Meierhoff, Brandon and Erin.

Grill masters were Christian Pedersen and Atmos Energy, Wagon Wheel, McDonald's of Hillsboro, Casey Case, and Gary Hett.

Terry Edwards, Arlie and Alan Overton, and Barry Allen did an excellent job prepping the fields.

Sponsors included Shawmar Oil, Flint Hills Firearms, HRK, Marion Body Shop, Tampa State Bank, Webster Auto Service, Marion Auto Service, Carlsons' Grocery, Rod's Tire, and Western Graphics.

A special thanks to Margo Yates for helping in every aspect of this tournament.
