Letter: Where is Dr. Hodson?

To the Editor:

The first time I saw the commercials on the "Lifetime" channel, I thought, "Good for Marion. We're really trying to promote our town." I thought they were informative and professionally done.

However, when I saw the hospital commercial, I wondered why Dr. Don Hodson's name wasn't mentioned and why he wasn't pictured in it. Then someone told me it was because he wasn't an employee of the hospital.

What does that mean — not an employee?! He has spent his entire career taking care of this community and hospital patients — St. Luke patients.

I remember when Dr. Ensey retired, he told me a new young doctor was moving here that he was sure I (and the town) was going to like. And we did!

For the past 25 years, Dr. Hodson has been our dedicated doctor that we have all depended on. I also remember when he was a young man with two babies at home and he was the ONLY doctor in town. He was on call 24/7 for a long time. What would our hospital have done without Dr. Hodson?

Is it an oversight of the hospital and hospital board that Dr. Don Hodson's name isn't at the top of the list?

I'm also sure that Dr. Hodson is a thrilled (as I am) that Dr. Skiles and Nita Bittle are here in Marion now. We needed them and we're happy they are making their homes here.

I understand if the hospital has a business agreement with them, but to act like Dr. Hodson doesn't work for St. Luke Hospital — gimme a break!

I think that regardless of any business agreement, to advertise the services available here, and not mention Dr. Hodson, is both disrespectful an unappreciative.

I'm grateful Dr. Hodson decided to make Marion his home, and I appreciate the personal sacrifice and dedication he has given to our entire community. So should the hospital.

I want (and I am not alone) to see his name and face on St. Luke Hospital's commercial.
