Letter: Your donation matters

To the Editor:

The Salvation Army Christmas Campaign needs your help.

As you pass by our red kettles this holiday season or see an envelope in your local newspaper, please keep The Salvation Army in mind. The gifts you give go to help our local volunteers deliver emergency assistance to those in need throughout your community all year long.

During the past few weeks due to the weather we have seen a decline in both volunteers and donations. Through your financial gifts, The Salvation Army is able to provide emergency assistance throughout the year, from rent and utility assistance to prescription eye glasses. Eighty-eight percent of the funds that are collected during this time of the year stays in your community to help those who have nowhere else to turn.

So as we look forward to receiving gifts and seeing the smiles on children's faces as they open theirs, please think of the people who are less fortunate and need the help of The Salvation Army throughout the year. Please, as you pass by a red kettle or see the envelope in your local paper think of the smiles throughout the year of someone that is able to remain in their home or keep their utilities on in times of trouble. Your gift makes that reality come true for many people in your community.
