Letters: First impression is important

To the Editor:

I believe the decision to eliminate consideration for curb and gutter on Eisenhower Drive should again be given consideration or evaluated.

As a major street that handles much local traffic and a large amount of business and visitor traffic, it could do much to present a more progressive image of the city of Marion.

Everything in the surrounding area such as a sports complex that is the envy of many communities, senior care and retirement facilities that are adequate and give a welcome appearance, a very nice elementary school, a well-kept, very nice cemetery, and a now under construction gymnasium with indoor swimming pool, all of which do much to present a good image of the city when anyone visits there. I believe the street should do the same.

A good first image is a very good tool in promoting our town to new businesses and future residents. Also, consideration should be given to the area beyond the industrial park that may be developed in the future.

All the above present a very good image of the area and the city. I say the street should do the same. A good first image is a valuable tool to use in promoting our town to new business and future residents.

In regard to the recent divisive upheaval on city governmental issues, I believe may be we needed such a painful occurrence to surface in order to give us as a community a wake-up call to get our act together, to try to make our city what it should be, a county seat town that gives others a good picture of what a town and community like ours should be.

We and all communities have and need people of all economic status in order to survive, but we must and we shall consider them all in making our decisions. Let everyone keep airing their grievances and differences, and then consider them all in making good and right decisions for the good of the whole community and its citizens. That is the democratic way.
