To the Editor:

The article in last week's issue on the local impact of the minimum wage increase brings out the reasons why it is a bad thing.

So, the question comes to mind, what was the reason for instituting a minimum wage? What was it based on? In the beginning, it was to protect the workers.

The resulting increased costs created a growing cost of living and the need for a constant rise in wages and benefits. This in turn, led to large corporations and big businesses. So it's like the old adage, the dog chasing its tail.

Real economic prosperity is based on how much I get done in an hour, not on how much I get per hour.
