What we missed

To the Editor:

Congratulations to Harper County. I see that you are permitted to open your Waste Connections Landfill in 2006.

You will have 1,500 tons of trash delivered to the landfill each day. That's 1,500 tons x five days per week = 7,500 tons x $1.50 = $11,250 a week.

This would be $540,000 a year for Harper County.

Think what Marion could have done with that money.

City workers

are great

To the Editor:

This letter is long overdue and we apologize for being remiss in having waited so long to write it. I guess when you have a complaint to write about (and are angry) you write sooner than when you have a compliment to give.

Our letter comes only with praise for the City of Marion — from the mayor all the way down to the mosquito truck crew. You are great and we think you professionally carry out your duties. We respect your policies and knew what they were when we signed up for utilities.

The ice storm of 2005 proved how dedicated the city workers really are. Part of the time they worked around the clock, risking their lives in such a terrible storm in order to get our electricity on again and our streets cleared of downed wires and trees.

And they didn't quit until the entire town was cleaned up and back to normal.

Speaking of the mosquito truck, we love the sound of that truck coming down the street!

So we want to say thank you to all the men and women working for the City of Marion, and for your faithfulness to your jobs. You have served us well for 41 years at our present address, and God willing, we think we will probably stay awhile longer.
