Lincolnville council approves overlay of city streets

Lincolnville City Council conducted an emergency meeting April 19 concerning overlay of several city streets.

The meeting was called because Shilling Construction soon will be removing the asphalt plant it established on the outskirts of town to overlay 290th from K-15 to U.S.-56/77, including Lincolnville's Main Street.

Bids were received earlier in the year from Shilling, Apex, Ritchie (now LaFarge) and Venture to overlay several other city streets, but no action was taken at the time.

Streets chairman Sherri Pankratz said Pilsen State Bank is willing to loan the city money for additional overlay of streets.

Slated for a one-and-one-half-inch overlay were: Kansas Street, First Street from Lombard to Kansas, Second Street from Lombard to Adams, Topeka Street from Main to Seventh Street minus the intersection at Topeka and Sixth, Seventh Street from the Gutsch residence to Newton, and the small section of Adams Street in front of the Warren Barton residence.

Treasurer Clay Simons and Mayor Scott Gutsch advised council members of the need to establish goals and plans for the future.

The council accepted Shilling's bid of $36,118.50, and voted to borrow not more than $40,000 from Pilsen State Bank for the project.

Gutsch noted a mill levy increase will be forthcoming in 2007.
