Lincolnville purchases clinic building

Safety and accessibility issues at 512 Wichita forced the hand of Lincolnville City Council in the purchase of a city building.

The council met Thursday evening in emergency session and voted to purchase the former Lincolnville Clinic at 218 W. Main for $14,000 from Marion County Hospital District #1.

The council earlier submitted a bid for $8,500 which was rejected by the hospital board.

According to city clerk Jane Pigorsch, the city's insuror dropped coverage of the 512 Wichita building last week. Furthermore, after an inspection by the state fire marshal, the building was condemned.

A former residence deeded to the city by Tampa State Bank, the building had been used for city business since Jan. 1.

The former clinic ceased operations Jan. 1. It was operated by Marion Family Physicians LLC and was in business for at least 22 years.
