Liquor-by-the-drink issue supported

To the Editor:

Whenever there is a K-State game played at home you usually find about 70,000 people attending the game. There is a constant line of cars using U.S.-77, traveling to and from the game.

The city of Burns would like the opportunity to feed these people on their way to and from the game. Our private club, as any other private club in the county of Marion is not allowed to do that. A person stopping to eat, or drink, if they wish, must buy a membership and they also are required to have a 10-day waiting period.

They can drive to El Dorado, in Butler County, or go to Newton and get fed immediately.

Marion County has lost countless dollars in revenue because of not having "liquor-by-the-drink." A good example of this is Kingfisher's Inn at Marion County Lake. They closed their doors Oct. 3. They were not allowed to serve a drink with a meal. This restaurant has been here for decades.

Marion County voters will have the opportunity to vote YES for liquor-by-the-drink at the Nov. 2 election. The county commission adopted a resolution, placing the issue on the general election ballot. Residents of Marion County should take a good hard look at this.
