Local boys attend leadership training

Three Marion High School seniors recently attended American Legion Boys State of Kansas at Kansas State University.

Michael Brookens, Casey Nelson, and Russell Ploutz attended the seven-day leadership program with approximately 500 other boys.

During the program, Brookens was a member of the City of Newman, Patton County, and held the position of president of the heritage association; Nelson was elected as a council member of the City of Haney; and Ploutz was elected mayor of the City of Schmitt.

Boys State is a program that teaches the value and workings of democracy on city, county, and state levels.
