Local man points, fires rifle at victim

The report of an aggravated assault along abandoned railroad tracks west of Cedar Street, Hillsboro, resulted in an arrest.

Drew Cederberg, 22, and Derek Conrad, 20, both of Hillsboro, were driving along the abandoned tracks Thursday when they were confronted by an unknown white male who threatened them with a firearm. The assailant pointed a rifle at the victims and demanded they leave the area. As the victims fled, the subject discharged the rifle.

The following day, Joseph E. Willems, 63, 1577 Goldenrod Road, Hillsboro, was arrested without incident by Hillsboro Police and Marion County Sheriff departments. The rifle that was used in the altercation was seized during a search of the Willems residence. Willems was booked for aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm.

April 9: EMS received assistance with a run in the 400 block of North Ash Street. Assistance was provided to SRS with an investigation.

Monday: Suspicious activity in the downtown area was checked. A damage complaint of a broken window at a residence in the 400 block of South Main Street was filed. Gang graffiti in removable ink was marked on a vehicle in the 200 block of South Main Street. Obscenities were painted on the doors of Hillsboro City Hall in the 100 block of East Grand Street. Suspicious activity was checked in the 100 block of South Main Street. A hitchhiker on U.S.-56 was checked. Gang-related graffiti was spray painted on a storage unit at Dale's Supermarket in the 100 block of North Main Street. Several suspicious people were checked at A and Washington streets.

Tuesday: A possible sick skunk was destroyed in the 700 block of South Washington Street. Suspicious vehicles were checked in the 800 block of East D Street and 400 block of South Jefferson Street. A city civil process was delivered. A motorist received assistance at U.S.-56 and Industrial Road.

Wednesday: SRS received assistance with a child welfare check in the 200 block of South Main Street. A noise complaint was filed in the 400 block of North Ash Street. People reported being harassed in Memorial Park by subjects hiding in bushes and making noises when the victims passed; the area was searched by the K-9 unit. Suspicious activities were reported at the arena at Marion County Fairgrounds and in the 200 block of South Main Street. Suspicious people were checked in the 200 block of South Birch Street.

Thursday: The K-9 unit performed residential drug searches in the 300 block of South Ash and the 700 block of South Washington streets. Eight curfew citations were issued in Memorial Park and additional citations are pending. A suspicious vehicle was checked at A and Washington streets. Suspicious activity was reported in the 300 block of South Main Street. Suspicious people were checked in the 600 block of East D Street. The K-9 unit searched a suspicious vehicle.

Friday: A possible child sexual abuse case was reported by subjects and remains under investigation. A suspect was arrested regarding an aggravated assault the previous night. A reckless driver complaint was filed in the 400 block of East D Street. A subject reported a possible elderly abuse case which was referred to SRS Adult Protective Services for further investigation. A report of a possible house arrest violation was made in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street.
