Lola H. Wheeler

Lola Wheeler, 98, died Sept. 29, 2006, in Marion.

She was born Dec. 27, 1907, in Brown County to Louis and Lenore (Reed) Hildwein.

On June 28, 1932, she married David Williams Wheeler in Dixon Springs, Ill. They made their home in Marion and were active members of the community while raising their three children, David, Lenore, and Lou.

She was an active member of Marion Christian Church where she served as organist and pianist for many years. She also was a devoted leader of the Christian Youth Fellowship and a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, Athena Club, PEO, Arts Council, and other charitable and civic causes.

She described her vocation to be a homemaker with her love of family and homes always her top priorities. She was never happier than when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at a family gathering.

She enjoyed being outdoors, either working in her flower beds, garden, or going on a picnic. Her love of sewing included knitting, crocheting, and quilting. Her love of sharing her music brought together wonderful and devoted friends throughout her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her husband and son, D.W. Wheeler.

Survivors include two daughters, Lenore Mitchell Dieter and husband Jerry of Marion and Lou E. Wheeler of Denver, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Charla Wheeler, Marion; three grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 3 at Marion Christian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or St. Luke Living Center.
