Terry and Julie Deines hosted a birthday barbecue hamburger supper Saturday evening in celebration of Dylan's sixth birthday and Terry's birthday. Dylan was born on the same date, Aug. 25, as his father, Terry. Guests were Mackenzie and Carly Deines, Mervin and Leona Deines, Jeff and Gayla Deines, Jessica, Shelby, and Justin; Ross and Debbie Coup, Samantha and Adam, Hope; Charles and Yvonne Miller, Herington; Rick and Connie Harmon and daughter, Madison, Kansas City; and Vernon and Bonnie Deines, Wichita. The birthday cake was decorated with a John Deere tractor. Cake and ice cream were served after supper, and with excitement, Dylan opened his gifts.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik helped Angela Tajchman celebrate her birthday Saturday noon. They ate dinner with her at St. Luke Living Center, Marion. After dinner Alex played some polka music with his accordion for the residents.

Darren Makovec helped Bob Reznicek Friday unload some hay bales and ate supper with Bob and Irma.

Larry Rudolph rode with me Tuesday afternoon to Herington and then ate supper with me.

Bob and Irma Reznicek attended Knights of Columbus Mass at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Marion. They also attended the potluck supper at the activity center.

Micky Black, Herington, visited his uncle, Larry Rudolph Wednesday morning.

I canned the last cucumbers, squash, and beets in my garden and the last pears and peaches off the trees. Have a few apples to can and will make apple pies and freeze them. Only things left in my garden are tomatoes and cantaloupes. The purple morning glories are beautiful on my fence in front of the house. Butterflies like them too.

Charles and Mary Loewen and Carol Makovec visited Sunday evening with Irma and Bob Reznicek.

Larry Rudolph went to the Tampa State Bank hog roast Saturday evening in Tampa.

Lowell and Carla Strecker, San Antonio, Texas, called me Tuesday evening. They said the boys started school. Carla visited her parents in Mississippi, and they had a touch of virus flu. They wondered how I was feeling and what I was doing. They had a couple of cool days.

Col. Bill and Janet Lynn Novak, San Antonio, Texas, visited from Wednesday to Saturday with Bill and Dollye Novak. Bill and Dollye hosted a supper Thursday night for their guests and Jim and Tina Novak and Christa, Tampa.

Randy and Colleen Klug, Herington, hosted a supper Aug. 13 in honor of their son, Brandon, who was home from a leave from Mississippi. Guests were Bob and Carol Makovec, Irma Reznicek, and Brandon's friends, Madison and Taylor Heitfield, Herington.

Junior Hanschu, Jeff and Jennifer Braden, Windom, attended the William Utech farm sale Tuesday evening at Trinity Lutheran parish hall in Ramona. Junior said there was a good turn-out at the sale but few bidders. Jimmy Srajer of Tampa bought the half section of land. While Junior, Jeff, and Jennifer were at the sale, Jeanetta Hanschu took care of her grandson, Josh Braden.

My son, Clark of Rose Hill showed up Wednesday morning as I was canning some peaches. He mowed my lawn and ate dinner with me.

Selma Ingram took care of her granddaughters, Oaklan and Tia Jenkins Friday night.

Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon of Hillsboro visited Thursday night with Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu.

Betty Stroda of Herington picked up Irma Reznicek Thursday morning. They went to rural Marion to pick up Ruby Holub. From there they went to Newton. Betty and Irma took Ruby out for her birthday dinner.

My cousins Elton and Shirley Phye, Canon City, Colo., surprised me Wednesday evening. They were in Missouri to attend a wedding. Elton and Shirley said they had to stop in to see Cousin Evie before they went home. We had a nice visit.

Frances Stuchlik drove to Tampa Tuesday night to help her daughter, Ramona, celebrate her birthday. Of course Don, Ramona's husband, also was there to partake of the ice cream and cake that her mother brought.

We wish to express our sympathy to the Richard Forsberg family.

Mervin and Leona Deines drove to Abilene Sunday to help his cousin, Bernice and Merle Stout celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at the senior center in Abilene. Alex and Jean Stuchlik also attended the celebration.

Bob and Irma Reznicek drove to Burlington Sunday to visit with Kenneth and Debbie Reznicek, Sara, Kary, Nicholas, and Nathan.

Adele Laing and her daughter, April, a friend, Sarah Hand of Newton, and Gary Williams of Hillsboro visited me Sunday evening.

Douglas Strecker of Hesston came here after work Tuesday to help Larry Rudolph elevate the small square alfalfa bales into my barn. They were supper guests.

Some of the farmers weren't too happy this morning. It rained on the hay that was cut.

Larry Rudolph visited with Mike and Karen Walsh and daughter Renee this past week.

Since the Centre schools started Thursday, I can see the buses, teachers, and students going by my place.
