Selma Ingram accompanied Adella Katz, and Larry and Connie Jenkins, Oaklan and Tia to the birthday party of Ina Jenkins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the city building in Lehigh.

A 39 3/4 surprise birthday party in honor of Jan Hanschu, Hillsboro, was held Saturday at Hillsboro Golf Course Club House. Guests who gathered at 6:45 p.m. on the south side of the club house were Joe and Joan Nowak of Pilsen, Junior and Jeannetta Hanschu, Fred and Marguerite Utech, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kallie and Morgan of Salina, and other relatives and friends. Jayson and Jan Hanschu were to leave their children at the club house while Jan thought she and Jayson were going somewhere to eat. She was really surprised to see the guests in attendance for the celebration. Jan's 40th birthday is Jan. 20, 2007. After supper, the guests and honoree visited and played cards. There were two cakes, each with photos of Jan. When Junior was asked how the secret was kept, he said that Jayson's invitation instructed guests to not call, e-mail, or talk about the party. "Remember this is a small world," the invitation read. After all, Jan does work in the office with her husband.

Larry Rudolph visited Evelyn Strecker Sunday afternoon. He fed cattle with large hay bales

Since Alex's band played during the dance, Gary and Jo Ann Stuchlik and family of Pilsen and Kelby and Rita Schwarz of Wichita were in attendance.

Irma and Bob Reznicek accompanied Bob and Carol Makovec to dinner Saturday night. Other members of the family who joined them were John and Helen Reznicek of rural Marion and Charles and Mary Loewen of rural Hillsboro.

Kenny and Melinda Stuchlik of Towanda were Saturday dinner guests of Frances Stuchlik.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik and Charlene Svitak ate a German supper Friday evening at Herington Senior Center. Alex and Charlene played polka music during the evening. George Svitak was not able to go with them because he was harvesting.

The Department ALVA tour will be at Dr. Robert and Hollie Novak's home in Lost Springs on Saturday. Lincolnville American Legion and Auxiliary members are invited to attend.

Mary Loewen of rural Hillsboro helped her mother, Irma Reznicek, with some work Friday.

Monty and Sarah Stuchlik and sons, Dan of rural Marion and Ross of Tampa, visited Frances Stuchlik on Monday.

There is a lot of milo to be combined and cattle to get out of pastures. It's time to check antifreeze in the vehicles, tractors, and some boats. We've had two good, hard freezes. I pulled out the cradles for my tomatoes that froze.

Frances Stuchlik's brother, Joe Holub of Haysville, visited her on Tuesday. Frances received calls from sons Bill, who lives in Arkansas and was in Italy for two weeks as part of his job, Kenny of Towanda, who was in New Jersey last week for his job, and John who was in Wyoming on his way to Montana with cattle.
