March 16-22

Neil and Jolene Albrecht hosted a birthday party Saturday afternoon for their daughter, Morgan who is two years old. They played games and ate supper, then Morgan opened her gifts. An Elmo birthday cake was served with ice cream. Guests were Fed and Marguerite Utech, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu, Bev Albrecht and family of Herington, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon of Hillsboro, Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, neighbors and friends.

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu went Saturday to Wendell Peterson's funeral services at Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick.

Centre Elementary and High School students and teachers are having spring break this week.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik and Bob and Irma Reznicek attended Edmund Steiner's 90th birthday party Sunday at Pilsen Community Center.

Larry Rudolph and I attended the Marion County Historical Society dinner, program, and meeting March 14 at the Pilsen Catholic church basement. Rosemary Neuwirth presented the life of Father Emil J. Kapaun and showed pictures of his life on the screen. Father Kapaun died as a POW during the Korean War.

Bob and Irma Reznicek went to Hillsboro Thursday on business and had dinner with son and brother, John who works at Hillsboro.

I asked Monty Stuchlik about his mother, Frances Stuchlik who broke her hip several days ago. She has been at Newton Medical Center. She possibly will be coming home Thursday.

Tia and Oaklan Jenkins spent Sunday night with grandma, Selma Ingram.

Jon and daughter, Anya Pospisil of Orlando, Fla., came March 15 as I was writing news. Anya was born in the Ukraine and adopted by Jon Pospisil 10 years ago. She was invited by the Lutheran College at Seward, Neb., to attend classes for one week to determine if she desires to go to college there when she graduates from Orlando High School in 2008. On the way home to Orlando they stopped to visit me. They were supper guests of Douglas and Marsha Strecker of Hesston then visited Bob and Lorena Pospisil at Libuse, La.

Larry Rudolph helped his sister, Mary Helen Black of Herington move Sunday.

Irma and Bob Reznicek attended a birthday party Sunday afternoon at the home of Randy and Colleen Klug at Herington in honor of their twin daughters, Alison and Nicole. A cake designed like a flower and ice cream were served.

Mervin and Leona Deines attended the Flint Hills supper Tuesday night at Herington Community Building.

I heard reports we received one and three-fourths inches of rain and a little snow. I fear my apricot blossoms froze.

Irma and Bob Reznicek were supper guests Tuesday of Naomi and son, Tom Nelson at Burdick.

I was surprised March 12 when Douglas Strecker of Hesston and Sonja Strecker of Newton showed up early in the morning. After some of my kitchen paper was torn off Douglas proceeded to paper and Sonja kept tearing off paper. It wasn't long before Clark, Laura, Austin, and Tailor showed up. They too tore off paper. Clark cleaned up the paper while Laura, Austin, and Sonja went to Ramona to get dinner for us. Marsha and Matthew helped her folks, Reign and Marlene Anduss at Ramona Café while Douglas and others papered. Marsha baked a birthday cake for me and Sonja decorated it. Marsha and Matthew came here to join the others in the middle of the afternoon. Matthew, Laura, and Tailor fed my cattle and cats. Austin helped me with some work in the house.
