Lost Springs: Families celebrate 4th of July with parades, picnics, and fireworks displays

Irma Benda, rural Marion visited June 28 with me while William and Marcel were combining wheat north of my place. They finally finished combining after fighting mud holes in the fields.

Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon of Hillsboro, Jennifer Braden and son Joshua of Windom spent July 4 with their parents, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu. Fred and Marguerite Utech stopped by in the evening. They all went to the Fourth of July parade and fireworks at Ramona. Junior said there was a large crowd in Ramona that evening.

Larry Rudolph and his nephew, Micky Black of Herington visited July 4 with me.

Selma Ingram visited Eva Miller this past week. Eva is going to Junction City hospital Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for dialysis.

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu went Thursday to the Herington fair and parade.

Larry Rudolph brought in my alfalfa bales July 3 and was a supper guest. Later in the week he brought in my brome grass bales.

Rita Stuchlik of Wichita visited this weekend with her parents, Alex and Jean Stuchlik.

Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon of Hillsboro went Saturday to Herington Lake to jet ski.

Lawrence and Helen Ambry of Elma visited July 4 with me. They left the next morning for Ohio for his mother's funeral.

The congregation of Pilsen Catholic church sang "Happy Birthday" Sunday to Amelia Vinduska who was 99 years old. Amelia loved gardening and flowers. She also loved entertaining people in her home, and she did a lot of needlework.

Larry Rudolph went Saturday to the Herington fair. They had women's rodeo.

Did you notice there are a lot of lightning bugs? I also hear katydids. We used to catch lightning bugs and wear the light on our fingers and pretend we had diamond rings. I have been watering my garden. Finished eating the peas and some beans. I got my garden in late so the cucumbers are setting on and the tomatoes are getting bigger and bigger. The mulberries and fallen apples are good eatin'.

Mervin and Leona Deines attended the Fourth of July parade in Ramona and then went home so the grandkids could have their own fireworks.

Ruby Scharping of Wichita showed up a week ago Sunday at her mother's home. She and her mother, Frances Stuchlik went to church in Herington and then ate dinner out. Frances went to work at Herington Lutheran Home after dinner and Ruby went to Hillsboro to visit her mother-in-law, Martha Scharping before returning to her home in Wichita.

Mervin and Leona Deines went Thursday to the Herington fair and parade.

Mary Loewen of Hillsboro and Lori Torline and children, Jennifer, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew of Derby visited Tuesday with Bob and Irma Reznicek.

Terry and Grace Stuchlik, Katy and Peter of Emporia, Larry Stuchlik of Lehigh, and Monty and Sarah Stuchlik visited Saturday with their mother, Frances Stuchlik.

Mervin and Leona Deines went to Herington Saturday to attend the 4-H judging. Their grandchildren, Makenzie Deines and Justin Deines had Angus cross bucket calves that were being judged. Leona said there were 20 calves being judged.

Bob and Carol Makovec accompanied Bob and Irma Reznicek Saturday to Abilene after attending services at Pilsen Catholic church. They joined with Randy and Colleen Klug, Nicole and Alison, Mark Makovec, Chanell and Hunter, and Troy and Robyn Heitfield, Taylor, Madison, and Drake, all of Herington, Jennifer Makovec and Paul Forrester of Salina, Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro at a Mexican buffet to celebrate Carol Makovec's birthday.

Marcel and Irma Benda ate dinner July 4 at Ramona Café and attended the celebration.

Betty Stenzel hosted a barbecue supper July 2 and then had fireworks. Guests were Preston and Mable Zimmerman and Cristina of Wylie, Texas, Merriam Riddle of Mesquite, Texas, Bonnie Reagan of Hillsboro, Gregory Stenzel, Nikki Stenzel, and Becky Jackson. Helen Chill of Marion was invited but was not able to attend. Betty said she attended the July 4 celebration at Ramona.
