Sept. 27-Oct. 5

Today is Oct. 5 and it is raining. Junior Hanschu said "we needed rain." Other farmers who have milo that is going down are wishing for no rain until the milo is combined. Monty Stuchlik said they had to put guards on both their combines to pick up milo. Farmers also are getting up early and working late planting wheat.

Lisa Hanschu visited Tuesday night with me. Early that morning her husband, Ronnie swathed my alfalfa and baled it Friday. The week before Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and children spent a few day at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City.

My nephew, Leroy Schwartzman of Ballwin, Mo., visited Thursday morning with me. He was on his way to his farm to put tin on the roof of an old house. This is part of the house that August Rumon's use to live in while the children went to Sunnyside, our country school.

Alex Stuchlik's band played Saturday morning at Octoberfest in Lincolnville. Maurice Pritz's band played in the afternoon.

Megan Stuchlik of Tampa visited Tuesday with her grandmother, Frances Stuchlik.

Hallie Novak visited Friday evening with me. She made a double batch of oatmeal cookies so she brought me some. The cookies were made with raisins and black walnuts.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik attended Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Richmond's 50th wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion.

Larry Rudolph visited Friday night with me.

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended services Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church then drove to Salina for dinner and shopping before visiting their children, Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kallie and Morgan.

Lacey and Susie Wallace of Tampa came Sunday afternoon with shovels and dug out a couple of my small walnut trees. Both are teachers at Centre schools and live on a farm west of Tampa. Susie said it was nice to meet me and said she always reads my news.

Bob and Irma Reznicek accompanied Bob and Carol Makovec to Ramona Café Sunday noon to celebrate Bob Makovec's birthday.

Laura Drebot of Rose Hill left Friday after work for Omaha, Neb., where she visited her mother, Ann Drebot, brother, sister and family, and friend, Kim. Kim and Laura went to the Nebraska/Iowa football game Saturday at Omaha. She stopped Sunday afternoon to visit with me. Clark had to work at Enid, Okla., over the weekend.

Ramona and Don Beisel of Tampa visit Sunday afternoon with her mom, Frances Stuchlik.

Larry Rudolph had supper with me yesterday after fixing my electric fence.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik helped Zachary Stuchlik celebrate his sixth birthday yesterday. He is the son of Gary and JoAnn Stuchlik of Pilsen. Others in attendance were his brothers and sisters and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stuchlik and family.

Frances Stuchlik said Monty and Sarah Stuchlik call on her almost every day and she gets lots of phone calls.

I heard there was frost on windshields and frost nipped tomato plants the other day. I didn't notice any frost on my place. Mildred Hajek said they are picking a ripe tomato now and then and so am I. I received some tulip bulbs yesterday to plant. They are scented tulips.
