Sept. 12-18

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu left Sept. 12 on a Prudent Bus Tour that took them to the state of Kentucky where they saw the Louisville Sluggers and the Quartett Convention. They went to Paducah, Ky., and Nashville, Tenn. In Nashville they visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, Upper Room Chapel, and Grand Ole Opry. En route home they saw the American Quilt Museum in Illinois. They returned home Sept. 18. Jeanetta's parents, Fred and Marguerite Utech took care of their flowers and other things while they were gone.

Micky Black of Herington visited Sunday afternoon with Uncle Larry Rudolph.

Leonard Hanschu of Harlingen, Texas, called me Wednesday morning. He wanted to know why the Junior Hanschus didn't answer their phone. He had information to give them about Trinity Lutheran Church. We talked about his folks who have died. Leonard is the only one left in the family. They lived on the farm my Uncle Joe and Anna Pospisil once lived on before they moved to Ellsworth.

Mervin and Leona Deines went to Wichita Thursday to visit Vernon and Bonnie Deines. Taking two cars they went to visit the town of Yoder. After dinner Vernon and Bonnie returned to their home and Mervin and Leona went to the state fair at Hutchinson.

I talked to Frances Stuchlik. It has been a month since her hip surgery. She is doing great and is using a cane. Father Wesley of Herington came Friday to give her communion.

Bill Barnett of Herington visited Sunday with Larry Rudolph.

Douglas and Marsha Strecker and son Matthew of Peabody came Saturday afternoon to my place. While Douglas was sawing and and hauling off limbs, Matthew mowed my lawn. Marsha and I looked at some of their wedding pictures. We ate supper at Ramona Café.

Frances Stuchlik's guests Saturday were Jeff Scharping and son, Bobbie of Wichita, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Don and Melissa Stuchlik and son, Tanner, Ross Stuchlik of Tampa, and Larry Stuchlik of Lehigh.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik went Thursday to Kansas State Fair at Hutchinson. Alex said they saw Clydesdale horses and the Budweiser wagon and pig races. They had Oreo cookies in a dish at the end of the race for the pigs. They also saw a 12-year-old girl rope a calf at the rodeo.

Wayne and Marieta Schwartzman of Park City visited a week ago with me.

Ronnie Hanschu informed me there are worms in the alfalfa and soybeans.

Alfred and Darlene Sondergard visited Sunday night with Mervin and Leona Deines. They played cards.

Larry Stuchlik of Lehigh visited Saturday afternoon with his mom, Frances Stuchlik. He came back Sunday morning and brought Frances a chicken dinner and pumpkin pie.

Larry Rudolph visited this past week with Mike and Karen Walsh and Renee.

Alice Jantzen of Ringwood, Okla., called me Thursday and thanked me for remembering her birthday which was Sept. 9. She was 89 years old. We are ABC college pals. She spends most of her time in a chair. She lives on a farm like I do, but has a woman take care of her. She does lots of needle work and gives it to the Mennonite relief fund.

Randy and Karen Stuchlik, Annalisa and Jacob of Abilene visited Sunday afternoon with mom, Frances Stuchlik.

We extend our sympathy to the Robert Potocnik family. He was killed while riding a four-wheeler in Oklahoma. Funeral was Thursday at St. John Catholic Church at Herington.

Irma Reznicek said she had no news. She was canning pears. I canned 11 quarts three weeks ago.

I will be taking news Wednesday mornings instead of Monday. News of that week will then appear in the Marion County Record the following Wednesday.
