Dr. Bob Novak said his wife Hallie put on a well-planned open house celebration for him for the 50 years he served as a veterinarian. A big turnout came from the areas of Burdick, Lost Springs, Lincolnville, Pilsen, Tampa, Ramona, and Durham. Kansas State University mailed a card of congratulations. The K-State alumni association mailed him a gift and note. There were 160 people that registered as they entered the Novak home.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik went Friday night to the Frances Stuchlik home to celebrate her 84th birthday. They brought her a birthday cake.

Fred and Marguerite Utech accompanied Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu Saturday morning to Hillsboro where they watched the wrestling tournament at Hillsboro High School. Their grandsons, Jakob and Jorge wrestled. Both took third place.

Irma Reznicek said this wintry morning her daughter, Carol Makovec started to work in Marion. When she noticed the roads had drifting snow, she turned around and went home.

Junior Hanschu, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Mervin and Leona Deines, Irma and Bob Reznicek, and Bill and Dollye Novak attended Dr. Bob Novak's open house.

I received a call Sunday afternoon from my son, Lowell Strecker of San Antonio, Texas. We hadn't visited for at least a couple months, so we had a lot of catching up to do. When I told him how cold it was he was glad he lived in Texas. They have not turned on heat. He was invited to dedicate a memorial Oct. 14 at Arlington National Cemetery. He is one of the sponsors. He said his family was invited to attend.

Monty and Sarah Stuchlik served a special dinner Sunday for mom, Frances Stuchlik's, 84th birthday. Other guests were Mike and Candee Thode of Wichita. In the afternoon they attended the baptism of Alexandria Marie Stuchlik, daughter of Dan and Melissa Stuchlik. Father Richard Stuchlik was in charge of the baptism at Pilsen Catholic church. Brother-in-law, Armando Tarin and Candee Thode were sponsors. After the baptism, Dan and Melissa and brother, Tanner had a reception at their home. Guests were Father Richard Stuchlik, Mike and Candee Thode, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Ross and Megan Stuchlik and Leona Kleiber, all of Tampa, Ruby Vinduska of Pilsen, and Armando and Jill Tarin. They also celebrated Frances' 84th birthday.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik went Sunday to Goddard to attend the Polka Club Christmas party at Red Dog Tavern.

Don and Ramona Beisel of Tampa, Randy Stuchlik and son, Jacob of Abilene and Marilyn Stuchlik of Wichita visited Saturday afternoon with Frances Stuchlik. They celebrated Frances' birthday. That was the fourth birthday cake. Frances received calls from her other children.

Alex Stuchlik asked me if my electricity went off yesterday. I said no. Theirs went off from 1 to 4 p.m. They heat their house automatically with a corn stove. He said they had so much smoke in the house the smoke detector went off.

Ronnie and Leona Hajek took a birthday cake Sunday afternoon to mom, Mildred Hajek. They celebrated her 89th birthday. Other guests were Brett Hajek of Newton and Darren and Trent Hajek of Salina. When I called to wish her happy birthday she said she was eating some of her cake.

As I am writing this news, it is snowing. I see squirrels running on top of the milk house, jumping to the ground to eat some of my black walnuts.

Larry Rudolph visited Sunday afternoon with his sister, Mary Helen Black and Micky Black of Herington.

It is so cold Larry could not get the tractors started. He pulled my cart with his pickup to feed the cattle. It has been seven to 12 degrees. I have been breaking the ice in the stock tank.

Ross Stuchlik is visiting his father, Monty Stuchlik today.

Betty Stenzel served Thanksgiving Day turkey to her son, Gregory Stenzel and daughter, Nikki.

Tom and Lori Moldenhauer of Tampa were supper guests Saturday of Gregory Stenzel and Nikki.

Betty Stenzel accompanied Frances Hanschu to Hillsboro where they shopped and ate out.

Gregory and Nikki ate dinner Sunday with Betty Stenzel.
