Saturday afternoon around four o'clock, I heard someone at my kitchen door yelling "Evelyn, Evelyn." It was Junior Hanschu. He wanted me to visit with his family who were sitting on square straw bales on his trailer. He said he was taking them out on a trailer ride in celebration of Halloween (one week late).

Jayson and Jan Hanschu, and sons, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon, Hillsboro; Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua, Windom; Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kelly and Morgan, Salina; great-grandparents, Fred and Marguerite Utech; and grandma, Jeanetta Hanschu, all were on the trailer with beaming faces. One could see they were really enjoying the ride. Jakob asked me "How old are you?" I asked him "How old do you think I am?" He said, 90. He missed it only by four months and four days. As Junior got on his John Deere tractor and drove out of the yard, the children waved.

Junior said after the ride they were going to have a wiener roast at their home. I told them when I was a young girl I use to go on several hayrack rides. I'm so glad the younger generation is keeping up that tradition, and the wiener roasts too.

Mary Loewen of Hillsboro helped her mother, Irma Reznicek, Wednesday with housework.

Larry Rudolph accompanied Ted Domann of Herington Monday to Topeka to visit their doctors at Colmery O'Neil Hospital. They did some shopping on the way home.

Chris and Jeri Strecker, Goessel, spent Monday evening with me. Chris loves to hunt pheasants and rabbits. They walked over some of my land to check the number of animals to hunt when the season starts.

There was a good turnout on election day. Dollye Novak, Leona Deines, and Connie Alvarez served on the board.

Larry Rudolph was at my place Wednesday to put a large bale of hay out for the cattle.

Irma Reznicek accompanied her daughter, Mary Loewen of Hillsboro Friday to Derby to visit Lori Torline, Jennifer, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew. That evening Irma and Bob Reznicek were supper guests of Charles and Mary Loewen.

I received a call Sunday evening from Clark and Laura of Rose Hill. Laura and Clark had to mow their three-acre lawn. They have received a lot of rain. We also made plans for Thanksgiving Day dinner at their house.

A benefit will be held Sunday for Terri Thompson of Ramona, who died Monday. A breakfast buffet will be served at Jeannie Webers café in Ramona. Terri Thompson, mother of five children, is in critical condition in a Wichita hospital following an accident on Friday. Terri is primary wage earner for the family while her husband, Jim home schools the children. Terri is a nurse at Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro. A trust fund has been set up at the Hope bank for the family.
