Kallie and Morgan Albrecht spent Wednesday night and Thursday with their great-grandparents, Fred and Marguerite Utech. They spent Thursday night to Saturday afternoon with Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu. Saturday afternoon they all met Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua, and Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon at Rolling Hills Zoo.

When they all returned to the Albrechts, Jeanetta was surprised by a yard full of friends and relatives gathered to celebrate her 60th birthday. Those attending were Garland and Dianna Utech and Lance Utech and Alexandria, Amsterdam, Mo.; Sally Utech, Lawrence.

Edna Mueller and Mel Epling, Tampa; Bill and Carol Utech and Junior and Liz Utech, Topeka; Dolores Siggs, Goddard; Fern Weber, Dean and Marsha Obermeyer, and Jim and Metta Rae Biehler, Herington; Michael and Karen Karber, Gypsum.

Gary and Judy Neuschafer, Lindsborg; Kim Hanschu, Wichita; Bud and Maureen Peterson, Burdick; Leola Neuschafer, Hope; the Rev. Allen and Maxine Woelzlein and Amy, Hutchinson; Harold and Susan Schultz, Hillsboro; and Warren and Paula Fike, Steve and Myrna Eskeldson, Roger and Jody Will and Allie, Teresa Tajchman, and Mervin and Leona Deines.

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu attended the Sunday noon 85th birthday party at Herington for Fern Weber.

As I look out of my kitchen door at 6:30 this Monday morning, I see Leland Bernhardt in the meadow field raking and baling hay. Many vehicles are going by, people going to work early to avoid the heat of the day.

My cousins, Elton and Shirley Phye, Canon City, Colo., called Saturday around noon. They said it was hot. She said she was losing her vision and has to use a machine to read. Elton wanted to know if my tomatoes are ripe. They love tomatoes.

Bill Barrett of Herington visited Sunday morning with Larry Rudolph.

Theresa Tajchman accompanied Mervin and Leona Deines Saturday to the home of Neil and Jolene Albrecht, rural Salina. They joined other relatives and friends who gathered there to surprise Jeanetta Hanschu for her 60th birthday, which is Aug. 8.

Larry Rudolph and I attended the wedding Mass Saturday to unite Rita Stuchlik, daughter of Alex and Jean Stuchlik, and Kelby Schawe, son of Leroy and Donna Schawe, in marriage at 2 o'clock at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen. We also attended the reception in the basement and dinner and dance in Pilsen Community Center. David Salmon Band, Omaha, Neb., played for the dance.

Others in the area that I saw in attendance were Bill and Dollye Novak, Dr. Robert and Hallie Novak, Mildred and Leona Hajek, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Frances Stuchlik, Leland and Barbara Bernhardt, Lucille Bernhardt, Sylvia Bezdek, and Irma and Bob Reznicek. Irma and Carol Makovec attended the wedding and reception.

At 8:45 Monday, I saw and heard the sirens of fire trucks from Ramona and Tampa going east. I called Bob Novak and asked if he knew where the fire was. It was at the home of Junior Madron in Lost Springs. They saw smoke in the attic. This is the home that always was known as the Nellie Andrews home.

Visitors at the home of Frances Stuchlik Saturday were her children Terry and Grace Stuchlik, Emporia; their daughter, Lisa and Robert Knoppel, Andrew and Katelyn, Olathe; Mark and Roberta Stuchlik, Edmond, Okla; Bill and Konna Stuchlik, Rogers, Ark.; Kenny and Melinda Stuchlik, Towanda; and Ruby Sharping, Wichita. Monty and Sarah Stuchlik joined them for lunch.

They attended the wedding of Rita Stuchlik and Kelby Schawe. Bill and Konna, Mark and Roberta, and Ruby stayed overnight. Everyone else returned to their homes that evening.

My son Lowell of San Antonio, Texas, called me Sunday afternoon. He said he was alone. Carla and the boys went to Wisconsin to a family reunion. He said they received three inches of rain before hurricane Emily reached the shores of Texas and Mexico, but received very little moisture from Emily.

Bob and Carol Makovec visited Irma and Bob Reznicek Sunday afternoon.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik made 35 dozen kolaches for the dinner after Rita and Kelby Schawe's wedding.

Marsha Strecker and son Matthew, Peabody, visited with me Sunday evening. They helped her folks, Reign and Marlene Anduss, serve Sunday dinner at their restaurant.
