Lost Springs: Novaks attend Czech festival

Doc Robert and Hallie Novak drove to Wilber, Neb., Aug. 4 to join other friends to celebrate the Czech Festival over the weekend.

Lowell Strecker of San Antonio, Texas, called me Aug. 6. When we started to visit he said it was really hot and dry. They needed the rain. We talked about 10-15 minutes and he said it was raining really hard. It was still raining hard when as we talked 40 minutes longer. He thought the rain was coming from the Gulf. I told him we really need train. Pastures, alfalfa fields, and crops are drying up.

Neil and Jolene Albrecht and Morgan and Kallie of Salina came to Elma Aug. 3 where grandparents, Junior and Jeannetta Hanschu met them. Kallie stayed with the Hanschus until Sunday, when Junior and Jeannetta took her home. Junior and Jeannetta and Kallie went swimming Saturday at Herington.

Oaklan and Tia Jenkins spent one night this past week with their grandma, Selma Ingram.

Laura Drebot and I canned 10 quarts of tomatoes that my son, Clark, grew in his garden in Rose Hill. We also have been eating some of his cantaloupe and sweet corn. Reign and Marlene Anduss of Ramona called on me Aug. 3 and brought me a box of tomatoes that we canned. Laura never canned tomatoes before.

Frances Stuchlik and Ross and Megan Stuchlik of Tampa accompanied Monty and Sarah Stuchlik to Wichita Aug. 4 where they attended the wedding of Chad Stuchlik, son of Marilyn Stuchlik of Wichita and the late Wayne Stuchlik, and Amy Perry at St. Mary's Cathedral. They also went to the reception and dance at the Old Town Hotel. Frances stayed overnight Friday with her daughter, Ruby Scharping of Wichita and Monty and Sarah Stuchlik and Ross and Megan Stuchlik stayed overnight with Mike and Candee Toade. Ruby and Frances went to Mike and Candee Toade's Saturday to join their guests. Monty and Sarah, Ross and Megan and Frances returned home Saturday.

Barbara Madron broke her ankle a week ago when she slipped on the steps as she was walking out of her trailer home. She is doing OK.

Irene Waylon of Miami, Okla., is visiting her mother, Mildred Hajek from Sunday to Thursday. Mildred accompanied Irene to Keats Aug. 8 to visit Irene's college friend, Lillian Hand. They also went to McPherson. Irene cooks for the Miami grade school.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik went to Wichita Aug. 4 to attend Chad Stuchlik and Amy Perry's wedding at St. Mary's Cathedral and the reception and dance at the Old Town Hotel.

Raelene Hajek drove to Hays July 29 and met her daughter, Lynette McLean, Cade, Josie, and Maggie. Maggie came home with Raelene and visited Paul and Raelene until Aug. 3. Raelene took her to Hays where Maggie's mom, Lynette, Cade and Josie met them. Maggie went home. Josie came Aug. 11 to stay for a few days. The parents, Jon and Lynette McLean teach school.

Junior Hanschu said Aug. 9 is the 20th wedding anniversary of their son, Jayson and Jan Hanschu. It also is the birthday of their son, Jorge. Jeannetta's birthday is Aug. 8. They will celebrate over the weekend.
