Lost Springs: Renee Walsh places first at Special Olympics

Renee Walsh is a member of and went with the SEDCTC group from the Herington area March 17-19 to the Special Olympic basketball state competition at Hays. Renee won first in individual skills and second in speed dribble. They had a banquet and dance.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik hosted an Easter dinner Sunday noon. Guests were Marcel and Mary Jane Steiner and David Steiner of Wichita and Robert and Debbie Burns and children of Wichita.

My son, Lowell Strecker of San Antonio, Texas, arrived Monday at my home. We ate supper Wednesday at Al's Café. Thursday we went to Marion where I had copies made of pictures and Lowell took care of some business. We were supper guests Friday of Douglas and Sonja Strecker. Other guests were Marsha Jarrell of Peabody and Ryan and Amber Hersberger and daughter Madison of Newton. Douglas, Sonja, Marsha, Lowell, and I went to Hutchinson after supper to attend the "Passion Play" at Abundant Life Church. Lowell left early Sunday morning for San Antonio.

Bob and Irma Reznicek accompanied John and Helen Reznicek of Marion March 20 to Wichita where they attended the rosary for Rose Gleason at Downing Mortuary. Rose died March 15. Bob and Irma and Carol Makovec accompanied John and Helen March 21 to Rose's funeral at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. After funeral and burial, dinner was served at the church basement.

Junior Hanschu, Jayson and Jan Hanschu, and Neil and Jolene Albrecht spent Saturday moving items of Jayson's from Neil and Jolene's home at Salina to Jayson and Jan's new home near Hillsboro.

Larry Rudolph was an Easter dinner and supper guest of Mike and Karen Walsh and Renee.

Bob and Carol Makovec hosted a basket dinner on Easter. Guests were John and Helen Reznicek of Marion; Darren and Amy Makovec, Justin, Ryan, and a friend, Ellie, and Shelby; Randy and Colleen Klug, Alison and Nicole, Mark and daughter Chanell Makovec, Troy and Robyn Heitfield, Taylor, Madison, and Drake, all of Herington; Jennifer Makovec and Paul Foster, Regan and Tatum of Salina; Jason Stika, Shelly, Cody, and Dalton, and Mike and Angie Stika, Macayla, Alex, and Miranda of Lincolnville;

Tom and Janet Reznicek of Lawrence; Sam Reznicek of Manhattan; Ed and Mary Fund Reznicek, Ella and Evan of Goff; Kenneth Reznicek, Sarah, Kary, Nicholas, and Nathan of Burlington; Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro; Josie Loewen of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Jeremy and Dionne Loewen of Manhattan; John and Lori Torline, Jennifer, Megan, Carolyn, and Matthew of Derby; and Bob and Irma Reznicek. They had an Easter egg hunt after dinner.

Douglas and Sonja Strecker of Hesston, Marsha Jarrell of Peabody, Lowell Strecker of San Antonio, Texas, Ann Drebot of Omaha, Neb., and Clark and Laura Strecker, Austin and Tailor of Rose Hill were my Saturday evening guests.

Douglas Strecker of Hesston, Lowell Strecker of San Antonio, Texas, and Clark Strecker of Rose Hill hosted an invitational dinner Saturday at Pilsen Community Center in honor of their mother, Evelyn Strecker's, 90th birthday. There were 40 in attendance. Alex Stuchlik played his accordion as they sang "Happy Birthday." Among those attending were Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Alex and Jean Stuchlik, Bill and Dollye Novak, Hallie Novak, Ronnie and Leona Hajek, Mildred Hajek, Jeanetta Hanschu and grandsons, Jakob and Jorge Hanschu of Hillsboro, Larry Rudolph, Marcel and Irma Benda, and William Benda.

Mervin and Leona Deines hosted an Easter dinner Sunday. Guests were Jeff and Gayla Deines, Jessica, Shelby, and Justin; Terry and Julie Deines, Makenzie, Dylan, and Carly; Ross and Debbie Coup, Samantha and Adam and Alisha Sly, all of Hope; Fred and Adeline Warns, Ron and Sandra Kinkler, Taylor and Katlein Sly, all of Salina; Lyle and Cathy Reidy, Rachel and Nicole of Topeka; and Dustin Burnett of Lincolnville. They played ball and hunted eggs after dinner. In the evening they ate lunch before going home.

Mike and Karen Walsh attended Trevia Schneider's funeral Tuesday morning at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona.

Mike and Karen Walsh left for Washington, Mo., where they visited with their mom, Janet Walsh until Thursday.

Becky Jackson and Gregory Stenzel were Easter dinner guests of Betty Stenzel.

My sister, Estella Kohler of Silver Springs, Md., called Monday morning and wanted to know how the birthday dinner and party turned out. She said they sure did hate to miss it. She said it was raining and was a nasty day.
