March 2-8

Renee Walsh and 10 other members belong to the Southeast Dickinson Magic Olympic team of Herington. They will be attending the state Olympic basketball meet March 16 to 18 at Hays College at Hays. Renee will participate in individual skills and special dribbles. There will be an opening ceremony, dance, banquet, and closing ceremony. Renee's mother, Karen Walsh and two other adults will assist the athletes.

Irma Benda of Pilsen visited Thursday evening with Evelyn Strecker.

Lost Springs High School alumni officers met and decided to have the banquet and program at 7 p.m. May 27 at Lost Springs Elementary School auditorium. Price will be announced when invitations are mailed. Officers are Barbara Murry, president; Alex Stuchlik, vice president; Ruth Riggin, secretary-treasurer; and Elaine Wyatt.

Frances Stuchlik went to St. John Catholic Church Friday evening at Herington. She missed a step and fell, breaking her hip. She is recovering from surgery at Newton Medical Center. Cards may be sent to her at 3355 Timber, Lost Springs 66859.

Sorry to hear Clinton Hanschu, 84, died Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church at Ramona. Burial was at Lewis Cemetery.

Larry Rudolph and Evelyn Strecker went Wednesday to Marion. While there they visited Evelyn's brother, Emil Pospisil at Marion Manor.

Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kallie and Morgan of Salina stayed Friday night with her parents, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu. They helped grandparents, Fred and Marguerite Utech Saturday get things ready for the Utech sale on March 25.

Irma Reznicek and Bob visited Friday and Sunday afternoons with Bob and Carol Makovec. The Rezniceks visited Sunday with Joe and Joan Nowak. Joe is recovering from knee and bypass surgery. He came home Feb. 27.

Marcel and Irma Benda, Alex and Jean Stuchlik, and George and Charlene Svitak of Pilsen drove Friday night to Holyrood to attend a polka dance. Barefoot Becky Band and Ivanhoe Dutchman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, played. Becky plays in the band barefooted and yodels. Alex played some of the music over the telephone for me to enjoy. I love polka music.

Alex and Jean joined others on a bus Thursday to Salina where they heard their grandson, Thomas Clegg sing in the opera "Evita."

Clark Strecker of Rose Hill did some work Monday for me and ate dinner with me.

Larry Rudolph accompanied Jess Brunner of Tampa Monday to Newkirk, Okla. They came back the same day. Larry told me Kansas looks green. In Oklahoma the wheat is dried up.

I received a letter from my sister, Victoria Zell of Shelby, Mont. She said an Alaska cold front is coming with minus temperatures while they have snow and ice underfoot. They had ice rain March 1 that plastered the windows with ice to where she could not see the outdoors.

My sister, Lorena Pospisil of Libuse, La., writes her husband, Bob planted his potatoes. They could use some moisture. She said Czechs from Czech Republic will be in Libuse in March to hold their Czech festival. She is making the kolaches.

Junior Hanschu attended the mineral and animal health dinner and meeting Tuesday at Tampa Senior Center.

Monty and Sarah Stuchlik visited Saturday and Sunday with Frances Stuchlik at Newton Medical Center.
