Lost Springs: Signs of spring are everywhere

There are signs of spring — I've seen the robins and other birds on my lawn. The lawn is turning green. My maple tree is leafing, and tulips are up. Some afternoons have been so warm I opened my kitchen door. I've washed some clothes and hung them outside. They smell so fresh. When the ground dries, some of the garden can be planted.

Fred and Marguerite Utech accompanied Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu Thursday night to Hillsboro where they attended the spring program at the school auditorium. Their grandson, Jakob Hanschu, son of Jayson and Jan Hanschu was in the program.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik really did enjoy the Pinewood Derby Sunday afternoon held at St. John Nep. Church. This was a Boy Scout project. Timothy Stuchlik, son of Chris and Melissa Stuchlik, was one of the contestants. Each contestant made a car five inches long out of pinewood. They ran on a 20-foot track. Timothy took third place.

Larry Rudolph was here Thursday afternoon. He fed my cattle. He reported that I had six calves in the pasture. I have 10 cows that he and I take care of.

Oaklan Jenkins didn't get to celebrate her Feb. 22 birthday. She became ill with a temperature of 104.

Frances Stuchlik attended the funeral Saturday of Monica Perez at St. John Catholic Church in Herington.

Don and Ramona Beisel of Tampa visited Saturday afternoon with her mother, Frances Stuchlik. On Sunday afternoon they visited Frances and sister, Ruby Scharping.

Ruby Scharping of Wichita came Sunday morning to the home of her mother, Frances Stuchlik. They went to church. After church, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik joined them and all ate out.

Leona Deines and Junior Hanschu said they had a good turn out at the pancake feed Sunday evening at Trinity Lutheran parish hall.
