Lost Springs: Stuchliks celebrate birth of grandson, band performs New Year s Eve

Jan. 5-11

Alex and Jean Stuchlik were Sunday supper guests of Robert and Debbie Burns and family at Wichita. They went to visit their new grandchild. Robert and Debbie are parents of Luke Thomas, born Friday at Wesley Birth Center. Luke weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Sarah, Therese, Joshua, Michael, and Peter welcomed their new brother when he came home. Grandparents are the Stuchliks and Michael Burns of Wichita. Great-grandmother is Ruth Watts of Chanute.

Carol Makovec picked up her mom, Irma Reznicek Sunday and they attended an altar society Christmas dinner and gift exchange after Mass at Pilsen Catholic church.

Larry Rudolph visited me Saturday. He fed my cattle.

Mervin and Leona Deines visited Friday with Bonnie Deines at Wichita.

Ramona and Don Beisel of Tampa visited Sunday with Frances Stuchlik.

Lowell Strecker of San Antonio, Texas, called me Sunday. He was checking to see how I was and wanted to know what I got for Christmas. One thing I received that I thought was unusual was a flashlight. I told him I was wearing the clogs they gave me.

Junior Hanschu and Mervin Deines attended the funeral Tuesday of Rosie Bernhardt at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Herington. Hallie Novak also attended.

Lost Springs American Legion Auxiliary will have a meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of Dollye Novak.

Kenny Stuchlik of Towanda visited Thursday with his mom, Frances Stuchlik. Monty Stuchlik visited Frances Sunday afternoon.

Girl Scouts Oaklan and Tina Jenkins, are selling cookies.

I just received a call from my cousin, Paul Wagner of Twisp, Wash. They had eight inches of snow and the temperature was more than 20 below zero. His mother, Cecelia, was born in this house in 1905. His grandparents are John and Josephine (Navrat) Pospisil. He was asking me about the genealogy of my grandmother, Alrysicus (Venus) Pospisil.

Dec. 29-Jan. 4

Fred and Marguerite Utech hosted a post-Christmas dinner Saturday. Guests were Garland and Dianne Utech, Lance and daughter Allie of Amsterdam, Mo., Scott and Rachel Utech and son Wesley of Stoutsville, Mo., Jayson and Jan Hanschu, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon of Hillsboro, Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu, Jeff and Jennifer Braden and Joshua of Windom, Neil and Jolene Albrecht, Kallie and Morgan of Salina. Jeff, Jennifer, and Joshua stayed overnight with her folks. Junior and Jeanetta. They went home Sunday afternoon. They also had a gift exchange.

Mervin and Leona Deines entertained Jeff and Gayla Deines, Jessica, Shelby, and Justin, Ross and Debbie Coup, Samantha and Adam of Hope, and Terry and Julie Deines, McKenzie, Dylan, and Carly Christmas Eve.

Alex Stuchlik's band played for a New Year's Eve dance from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at Pilsen Community Center. There was a good turn-out.

Mervin Deines and his grandson, Adam Coup of Hope and a couple friends from Wichita went Wednesday and Thursday to Greensburg to hunt pheasants. Mervin said there are a lot of pheasants in that area. He said he didn't get any as he "couldn't even hit the side of a barn." Adam was so happy, he got one and one-half pheasants. He shot the second one and it went down but then started running. One of the men from Wichita shot the pheasant a second time. That explains the one-half pheasant. The friends from Wichita all got their limit.

Evelyn Strecker hosted a post-Christmas basket dinner Saturday. Clark Strecker brought his grill to cook the steaks. Guests were Douglas and Marsha Strecker and Matthew, Christopher and Jeri Strecker, Autumn and Chris Jr. of Hesston; Yancy and Julie Strecker and Gabriel, Sonya Strecker, all of Newton; and Clark and Laura Strecker, Austin and Tailor of Rose Hill. Before dinner Autumn, Chris Jr., and Gabriel thought it was fun helping Laura feed small alfalfa bales to the cattle. All the children looked into their stockings to see what Santa Claus brought them. After dinner we had a little program. Yancy brought his guitar and everyone sang Christmas songs. Yancy sang a song he had written. Tailor handed out gifts under the Christmas tree.

Adam Coup of Hope visited Wednesday through Friday with his grandparents, Mervin and Leona Deines. His father, Ross Coup got him Friday night.

Marcel and Irma Benda drove Monday to Wilson to attend the funeral services of Joe Kracky at Wilson Catholic church. He was 94 years old. They also visited Henry Soukup of Wilson.

Junior Hanschu and Mervin Deines went Friday to Gypsum to attend funeral services of Mike Karber's father at the Catholic church. Mike's wife, Karen is a niece of Junior.

Larry Rudolph was a New Year's Day guest of Mike and Karen Walsh and Renee.

Alex and Jean Stuchlik were New Year's Day dinner guests of Marcel and Mary Jane Steiner and son, David at Wichita.

I received a card from cousin, Bette Warford of Spring, Texas, asking me if I saw the string of cars leaving Houston before Hurricane Katrina hit. Bette and her granddaughter, Jamie left for Dallas two days before the hurricane came on land. Hurricane Rita did some damage to Bette's property.

Weldon and Rosemary Deines were snack guests New Year's Eve of Mervin and Leona Deines. Later in the evening, Jeff and Gayle, Jessica, Shelby, and Justin and Terry and Julie Deines arrived.

Irma Reznicek had cataract surgery Dec. 28 at Wichita. After surgery she spent one day with John and Lori Torline and family at Derby. Bob picked up Irma Thursday. I talked to Irma Wednesday morning. She said she can do her work even if her left eye is blurry.

Shane McElroy and friends from El Dorado visited Monday with Larry Rudolph and Evelyn Strecker. They were hunting deer. They got two at Larry's.

Bob and Carol Makovec, Kenneth and Debbie, Kary, Nicholas, and Nathan of Burlington, Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro, and Bob and Irma Reznicek got together New Year's Day at the home of John and Helen Reznicek at Marion for soup, sandwiches, and snacks.

Larry Rudolph was at my place Saturday evening to feed cattle and fix the electric fence in three places. He believes deer broke the fence.

Dec. 22-28

Students from seventh through 12th grades performed a winter concert Dec. 20 at Centre High School. Gregory Stenzel and his mother, Betty attended the concert. Gregory's daughter, Nikki was in the concert. Gregory and Betty went Thursday to Salina. Gregory and Betty visited Saturday afternoon with Norma Weber. Later, along with Nikki, they drove to Marion to visit Helen Chill. Gregory and Betty went to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Herington Christmas Eve to attend the Christmas program in which Nikki performed. Gregory and Nikki and were Christmas Day dinner guests of Betty.

Mary Helen Black and son, Micky of Herington visited Thursday with Larry Rudolph.

Tom and Diann Ensz, Colton, Kyle, Jacob, Joseph, and Natalie of Keller, Texas, were guests of her parents, Alex and Jean Stuchlik for several days this past week. Alex and Jean's Christmas Eve supper guests were Kelby and Rita Schawe of Wichita and Gary and JoAnn Stuchlik, Derek, Amanda, Zachary, Nicholas, Maria, and Abigail of Pilsen. Christmas Day dinner guests were Marcel and Mary Jane Steiner and son, David and the Schawes of Wichita and the Gary Stuchlik family. Additional guests in the afternoon were Chris and Melissa Stuchlik, Thomas, Timothy, Charles, and Quentin of rural Lincolnville.

Dr. Bob and Hallie Novak were Christmas Day dinner guests of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Schlesener of Manhattan. They had other relatives as guests. After dinner they went sightseeing. They saw eagles at the Manhattan park near Tuttle Creek Dam. After Christmas the Novaks were dinner guests of their daughter, Jeff and Cindy Clark and family of Wichita. Additional guests were Mike and Jo Smith and daughter, Hallie of Great Bend.

Visitors Christmas Eve of Mike and Karen Walsh and Renee were their daughter and family, Paul and Kimberly Garrett and son, Alexander of Wichita. They stayed overnight and went back to Wichita Christmas morning. Christmas Day the Walshes served dinner to Connie Hastings and Larry Rudolph. Additional guests that afternoon and evening were Mary Helen Black and sons, Micky and Lance of Herington.

Evelyn Strecker's Christmas Day dinner and supper guests were Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Park City, Marcel and Irma Benda and son William of Pilsen, and Clark and Laura Strecker of Rose Hill. We had a lot of fun exchanging gifts. It was a beautiful warm day. Wayne said he visited Saturday afternoon with Uncle Emil Pospisil.

Mary Loewen of Hillsboro visited Dec. 21 with her sister, Carol Makovec. They helped their mother, Irma Reznicek with errands.

John and Helen Reznicek of Marion, Ralph and Betty Stroda of Herington, Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro, Carol Makovec, and Irma and Bob Reznicek ate supper Dec. 21 at Al's Café at Lost Springs. They celebrated Ralph and Bob's birthdays.

Mark and Roberta Stuchlik of Edmond, Okla., and Ruby Scharping of Wichita were Christmas Eve guests of their mother, Frances Stuchlik. They attended Christmas Eve services at St. John's Catholic Church at Herington.

Hallie Novak took goodies Saturday morning to Frances Stuchlik and Evelyn Strecker.

The annual Stuchlik and Beisel family Christmas dinner was held at the Boy Scout hall at Hillsboro. Attending were Don and Ramona Beisel of Tampa, Connie Jantzen, Ruby Scharping, Brian and Jan Scharping and family, Jeff and Julie Scharping and family, Marilyn Stuchlik, Damien and Sonya Carrillo and family and Father Dick Stuchlik, all of Wichita.

Tim Beisel and family of Newton, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik and Ross and Megan Stuchlik of Tampa, Dan Stuchlik and Tanner of rural Marion and Terry and Grace Stuchlik, Mike, Peter, and Katie of Emporia, Robert and Lisa Knoeppel and children of Olathe, Kyla Stuchlik and friend Josh Allenbach of Moundridge, Kenny and Melinda Stuchlik and family of Towanda.

Randy Stuchlik, Annalisa, Julie, and friend Chad Brush of Abilene were Christmas Day evening guests of his mother, Frances Stuchlik.

Christmas Eve guests of Irma Reznicek and Bob were John and Helen Reznicek of Marion; Darren and Amy Makovec of Shelby; Randy and Colleen Klug, Alison and Nicole, Mark Makovec and friend and children Chanelle and Hunter, and Troy and Robyn Heitfield, Taylor and Madison, all of Herington; Jennifer Makovec and Paul Forrester and children, Regan and Tatum of Salina; Mike and Angie Stika, Macayla, Alex, Miranda, and Aaron and Jason Stika, Shelly and Dalton, all of Lincolnville; Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro; Josie Loewen of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Bob and Carol Makovec. Stephen Schmidt of McPherson and George Shutte of Lehigh visited Monday afternoon with Evelyn Strecker. They returned some maps they borrowed from me.

Mike and Candee Thode of Wichita visited Sunday morning with grandma, Frances Stuchlik. They then went to Hutchinson to spend Christmas Day with his folks.

Mildred Hajek was a Christmas Day dinner guest of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Hajek of Marion.

Bob and Carol Makovec, Charles and Mary Loewen of Hillsboro, Josie Loewen of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jeremy and Dionne Loewen of Manhattan, and Irma Reznicek and Bob were Christmas Day dinner guests of John and Helen Reznicek of Marion.

Selma Ingram, Michael Jenkins of Canton, Ian and Kevin Jenkins of Hillsboro, and Adella Katz and son, Steve were Christmas Eve supper guests of Larry and Connie Jenkins, Oaklan and Tia.

Irma and Bob Reznicek joined other relatives and friends Monday at the home of Charles and Mary Loewen who gave a reception in honor of their daughter, Josie who recently graduated as a physician assistant at Oklahoma City, Okla.

Larry Rudolph visited Tuesday afternoon with me after he fed my cattle. In the morning he fed Jess Brunner's cattle.

I received a Christmas card from my niece, Carla and Gene Shade of South Africa. She said she learned how to pet lions. Carla is the elder daughter of my sister, Victoria Zell. We thought it was cold in our area when we had sub-zero weather. Victoria, who lives in Shelby, Mont., said it was -10 degrees when she was typing her Christmas letter to me.

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu and Fred and Marguerite Utech attended Christmas Eve services at Zion Lutheran Church at Hillsboro. Jake and Jorge Hanschu participated in the program. Afterward they went to Jayson and Jan Hanschus for refreshments.

Jayson, Jan, Jakob, Jorge, and Jaxxon Hanschu, Jeff, Jennifer, and Josh Braden of Windom and Neil, Jolene, Kallie, and Morgan Albrecht of Salina were Sunday evening and overnight guests of Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu. Fred and Marguerite Utech joined them Monday morning for brunch and everyone enjoyed an afternoon of opening gifts and visiting. Monday overnight guests were the Bradens and Jake and Jorge Hanschu.
