Marble & Granite finishes second in tourney years ago

Marion Marble & Granite 10-and-under softball team ended its successful season Thursday with a second-place finish.
After finishing 9-2 and tying for first during the regular season, the team opened up tournament play July 5 with a 5-0 victory against Chase County.
After a second-round 2-1 loss to Hillsboro Vogt's, Marion fell into the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament. There it dispatched Peabody, 10-5.
The girls then were forced to play three games Thursday.
They defeated Hillsboro T & T 10-3, and Marion Body Shop 8-6, to earn a spot in the championship round with Vogt's.
In their third game of the night, the girls were defeated once again, this time by a score of 5-1.
The team finished with an overall record of 13-4.
"We are so proud of them," coach Kathy Meierhoff said. "They worked together as a team, they showed good sportsmanship, and had fun playing ball."
