Marble and Granite notches sixth victory

It's been a good year for Marion Marble and Granite 10-and-under softball team.

The girls notched two victories this past week, improving to 6-0.

The team took on Peabody June 21 and won easily, 11-3.

Chelsea Voth started on the mound again for Marble and Granite. She pitched two innings and recorded three strike outs.

Anne Jirak closed out the game, striking out the side in the third and final inning.

Nine girls recorded hits, led by Jirak and Erin Meierhoff with three each. JayDee Schafers recorded the only extra-base hit with a triple in the third inning.

The next day the team was at it again, downing Centre 8-4, in one of its closest games of the season.

Jirak and Voth led with three hits each, and Jirak scored a team-high two runs.

Voth continued her pitching dominance Friday with a 10-strikeout performance in a 12-1 victory against Centre.

She struck out two batters each inning, and smacked two of the team's 20 hits.

Marble and Granite has two games left, and will compete July 5-8 in the league tournament at Warrior Stadium.
