Margaret Ireland

Margaret Ireland, 77, died March 20, 2005, at Marion.

Born July 9, 1927, at Norwich, she was the daughter of Joseph and Ethel (Chesterman) Taylor.

On May 30, 1948, she married Kenneth Ireland at Wichita. The couple had two sons and a daughter.

She was a homemaker, teacher, nurse's aide, and worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service.

She was an accomplished seamstress and had designed cheerleaders' uniforms for North High School in Wichita. She was a member of quilting groups at Marion Senior Center and Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

She served as the Youngtown correspondent for the Marion County Record for many years and helped update and keep records for Grant Township Cemetery.

She was a member of Youngtown United Methodist Church until it closed, then transferred to Eastmoor. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Athena Club, and Youngtown FCE. She also had served as a Cub Scout leader and Campfire leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; and two brothers, Chester and Joseph Taylor.

Survivors include two sons, Patrick and Nancy Ireland of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Ronald and Sheila Ireland of Missoula, Mont.; a daughter, Marj and Joe Johnson of Wichita; a brother, Bud Taylor of Cheney; four sisters, Francis Bowen of Chivington, Colo., Eula Mae Baumgartner of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jo Gearheart of Wichita, and Martha Davidson of Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.

Burial in Marion Cemetery will be at 1 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Goering officiating.

Shirley Bowers will be pianist. Recorded music by the former Youngtown Men's Quartet and songs by the congregation will be the special music.

Casket bearers will be Pat Ireland, Ron Ireland, Joe Johnson, Sean Ireland, Kevin Ireland, and Ethan Johnson.

Memorial funds have been established with Marion Ambulance Department, Marion City Library, and Friends University.
