Marion FFA attends leadership conference

Officers of Marion/Florence FFA chapter participated Thursday in the South Central District FFA Leadership Conference at Moundridge.

The conference consisted of three competitions in the areas of parliamentary procedure, FFA information, and ritual.

Marion placed sixth in parliamentary procedure, eighth in the ritual contest, and 10th in the FFA information contest. The chapter placed eighth overall, with 24 teams competing.

Students competing in the parliamentary procedure contest were required to take a test about parliamentary procedure and perform a 10-minute demonstration of 10 parliamentary motions.

The demonstration had to reflect a meeting in progress and participants found out which motions they had to demonstrate and their topic exactly one minute before beginning the demonstration.

The FFA information contest consisted of a 100-question test about the FFA organization, officers, history, official functions, and current programs and awards.

Students in the ritual contest were required to perform the opening ceremony used at FFA meetings and official functions.

Students competing for Marion included Leann Thomas, Adam Depler, Clayton Garnica, Braden Suffield, Danielle Cope, and Shawn Britton.

Tacy Taylor and Kevin Billbe participated in the FFA Greenhand Creed Speaking contest held that same day at Moundridge. First year members presented the FFA creed and were evaluated on their presentation. They also were required to answer some questions relating to the FFA creed.
