Marion FFA wins third at leadership conference

Officers of the Marion/Florence FFA chapter placed third overall Thursday among 24 teams attending the South Central District FFA Leadership Conference at Chaparral High School.

The conference consisted of three competitions in the areas of parliamentary procedure, FFA information, and ritual.

Marion placed fourth in parliamentary procedure, fourth in FFA information, and eighth in the ritual contest.

Students competing in the parliamentary procedure contest were required to take a test over parliamentary procedure and then perform a 10 minute demonstration of 10 parliamentary motions. This demonstration reflected a meeting in progress, and participants found out their topic and motions just one minute before the demonstration.

The FFA information contest consisted of a 100-question test covering the FFA organization, officers, history, official functions, and current programs and awards.

Students in the ritual contest were required to perform the opening ceremony used at FFA meetings and official functions.

Students competing for Marion included Danielle Cope, Chase Williams, Riley Ross, Hank Collett, Tacy Taylor, Brad Klenda, and Mark Kukuk.

Marion's junior officer team also competed in the greenhand division of the conference. They placed fourth in the FFA ritual contest and seventh in the parliamentary procedure contest.

Team members included Sam Ehrlich, Eric Vogel, Mason Kukuk, Dillon Wildin, Justin Herzet, and Ryan Jones.

Ehrlich and Jones also participated in the FFA Greenhand creed speaking contest. They were evaluated on their ability to present the organization's creed, as well as answer questions related to the FFA creed.
