Marion High School is winner in multi-state contest

The counselor's office at Marion High School has been named a winner in Southwestern College's online "Why Wireless?" contest. MHS counselor Phoebe Janzen accepted the award from the college during a ceremony Monday at the high school.

The contest encouraged high school students to write an essay of 50 words or less detailing why wireless Internet is important. More than 400 entrants from 119 high schools in six states responded; the top entrant received a new Dell laptop computer and 10 runners-up received Dell DJ Ditty MP3 players.

In addition, counselor offices in the 10 high schools with the most entries received Dell DJ Ditty players; Marion High School was one of the top 10.

SC admission representative, Jodi (Thomas) Combs, presented the award in a surprise appearance at the high school. Combs is an MHS graduate.

Southwestern College is a laptop learning college, and all students receive Dell laptop computers to use while they are enrolled on the wireless campus.
