Marion homecoming is Friday

Sports reporter

The royalty list will be cut from six to two, as Marion High School will crown its homecoming king and queen Friday.

Candidates Dale Vogel, Adam Heerey, Trevor Jones, Whitney Wear, Amber Richmond, and Chelsi Carlson.

Candidates will arrive in golf carts in front of the home team crowd. Unlike past years, the ceremonies will take place before the game, not at halftime.

The new league Marion is a part of, Mid-Central Activities Association, requires all homecoming ceremonies to be finished 10 minutes before the start of the homecoming game.

The event will start at 6:30 p.m. Anyone attending the game is urged to arrive earlier for the tailgate party at Warrior Stadium starting at 5 p.m.

MHS will have school spirit days throughout the week, including hat day and pajama day.

The last 30 minutes of each school day will include "Battle of the Classes," activities. There will be a quiz bowl one day, testing students' knowledge of their teachers. The candidates also will have contests amongst themselves, sometimes getting pretty messy. They will be similar to Double-Dare, with events that could include tossing items covered in chocolate into over-sized pants worn by the boys.

After the Marion Middle School football game Thursday, there will be the annual, "Burning of the Dummy." A bonfire will take place at the field, and an Ellinwood Eagle dummy football player will soon learn its dreaded fate.

The week will conclude with a pep assembly Friday at 2:45 p.m. between Duckwall's and Suffield's on Main Street.

The community is invited to cheer on the Warriors. All six candidates will be present, as well as coaches from MHS.

The Warriors will play host to Ellinwood at 7 p.m. Friday.
