Marion Kiwanis Club hosts district governor's meeting

Nearly 80 people gathered Sunday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church hall for the annual visit of the Kiwanis governor of the Kansas District.

Each year, the Kiwanis governor attends a meeting at the city of the Kiwanis lieutenant governor of each Kansas division. Feebie Holdeman, of the Marion Kiwanis Club, is lieutenant governor for District V, so the meeting was held in Marion.

Members of clubs from Marion, Hillsboro, Herington, McPherson, Emporia, Lindsborg, and Council Grove were in attendance.

Members of Marion High School Key Club also were in attendance as were state Kiwanis officials.

Six new members were inducted by governor Max Klamm, including four from the Marion club — Shirley Bowers, Al Ash, Todd Heitschmidt, and Mike Eurit.

Holdeman shared her goals for the year, district secretary Dot Leakey presented a report, and governor Klamm reminded members about the importance of Kiwanis and making a difference in children's lives. Kiwanis International's goal is to have one million members by 2015.

A mid-winter conference will be Jan. 12-13 at Dodge City. This year's international convention is in July in San Antonio, Texas.
