Nov. 30-Dec. 6

We kicked off the Christmas celebration this past week with a family potluck night. Sammie and the other dietary staff outdid themselves by serving glazed ham, green bean casserole, and candied yams. Family members brought the rest. It was a feast fit for a king.

We have decked the halls and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas with the snow we received. Residents also have been blessed with Christmas carolers.

Kiwanis members came Monday afternoon to sing. The weekend before the 4-Hers sang for us.

Other groups have been here in the evenings, walking up and down the hallways and singing.

Anita Hancock is bring the fifth grade to sing next week. Everyone enjoys the sound of music and laughter in the hallways.

We have been busy with our usual activities. Bill has called bingo when staff is not available.

The Red Hat Ladies still meet Thursdays in the quiet lounge.

The lunch bunch managed to get in a trip to McDonald's. Claire, one of the resident's daughters, accompanied us. She is so helpful. The staff at McDonald's are so courteous.

Kathy Holub baked cookies Thursday for the residents to decorate. We had lots of fun decorating cookies and talking about some of our personal Christmas traditions. And of course we also had to sneak some red hots we were using to decorate. The cookies will be sent out on the snack cart for all to enjoy.

The Big Scoop has volunteered to purchase gifts for residents who do not have family. Staff here also adopted residents without family.

Lois Weber and the VFW auxiliary gave a gift of applesauce, bibs, wheelchair bags, and catheter bag covers. They also sent a little gift for the veterans here. Hats off to all the volunteers who do so much for us during the holiday season and throughout the year.
