Bill Schimpf called bingo this week and Ralph Noriega sang Saturday for the residents. Robyn read to the residents from the "sister" book this week. Residents enjoy having stories read.

Some of the residents got in on volunteer acts as well. June assisted with morning exercise group for range of motion and a game of kickball. June also got together with Sammie from the dietary staff for plans for a Fourth of July cake. Sammie really came through with flying colors as she baked and decorated a sheet cake that looked like an American flag.

The staff was in a special in-service Thursday. Celebrations were held for years of employment. Sammi Stafford, dietary service manager, and Cheryl Silhan, laundry, five years; Dona Kukuk, medical aid, 15 years; and Rosalie Rudolph, housekeeping supervisor, 10 years.

The 24k group put on the party. Cake and punch were served to staff and residents. Sandy also made Fourth of July treat cups for the staff.

The week ended with a big bang as our Fourth of July festivities took place.

Buster the miniature horse visited in the late morning. He stayed on the back patio area until residents had to come inside for lunch. Many requested a return visit.

That evening residents gathered on the front patio for fireworks. Residents shot off party poppers and snaps while watching other fireworks. Everyone enjoyed the variety of fireworks, but the favorites were colored smoke and parachutes. The flaming flowers were popular as well; they spun around like a top and changed colors.

Many residents were out for the holiday weekend to visit families for reunions or fireworks. The best part of the weekend was the weather. Residents sat out on the patio for hours just enjoying the beautiful day. Jacki, a CNA, took some of the night owls outside later to shoot off more fireworks and sparklers.

We want to make welcome our newest "family member," Sue who came here Friday. We hope she feels at home with us during her stay.
