Marion Marble team loses to Hillsboro

Marion Marble & Granite girls' softball team put up a valiant effort June 29 but could not come up with the points to outscore Hillsboro.

Danae Bina, Erin Meierhoff, and JayDee Schafers put points on the board during the first inning. Emily Cyr, Chelsea Voth, and Meierhoff added three more in the second.

The Marion team was ahead at the bottom of the third inning but Hillsboro took the lead in the fourth, scoring five runs. Marion couldn't keep up when the first three batters were called out at first base and were held scoreless in the third and fourth.

Schafers and Monica Spachek scored in the open fifth inning, however it wasn't enough to slow Hillsboro and the game ended with a score of 8-16.

"The girls played well," said coach Kathy Meierhoff. "They've finally started hitting off the pitcher and we had 13 hits (off the pitcher) during the game."
