Marion officers continue to investigate arson fire

Marion Police Department continues an investigation of a garage and mobile home fire July 26 that was deliberately set.

July 21: An officer met with an individual who did not pay for an item at a business; the individual returned to the business and paid. Response was made to a report of disturbing the peace in the 300 block of North Roosevelt Street. A warning citation was issued for illegal parking of a semi. Criminal damage to property in the 1200 block of Weldon Street was reported.

July 22: A report was made of a burglary and vehicle theft from the 100 block of North Eisenhower Street. A motorist with vehicle problems received assistance. A possible accident on private property was reported. An open business door was located, checked, and secured. A warning citation was issued following a report of fireworks being discharged at Highland and Cedar streets.

July 23: An officer looked for a subject regarding an outside agency investigation. A sheriff's deputy received assistance with traffic control following an accident at 160th and Sunflower roads. Response was given to a report of a problem with a child in the 400 block of South Fourth Street.

July 24: An officer met with the parents of the child from an incident the previous night. A vehicle that was stolen July 22 was recovered in Manhattan; officers worked with Manhattan Police Department on the case. A disturbance complaint was investigated in the 400 block of South Fourth Street. Two subjects met with an officer regarding an earlier altercation at a business. An open business door was located, checked, and met with owner.

July 25: An officer traveled to Manhattan regarding a stolen vehicle; evidence was collected, witnesses interviewed, and took victim to pick up the vehicle. Assistance was provided to an ambulance crew on a run. Officers responded to a house fire in the 400 block of South Coble Street; the fire has been determined to be arson and an investigation continues.

July 26: Follow-up interviews were conducted regarding a house fire case; several hours of video evidence were reviewed and contact was made with American Red Cross to provide assistance to victims. A subject was arrested on a Marion County warrant.

Thursday: Suspicious activity was discovered in the area of the 300 block of Santa Fe Street; area was checked and everything was OK.

Friday: A search of a residence in the 100 block of North Roosevelt was conducted in connection with an arson investigation. An officer responded to a 911 hang-up in the 200 block of Walnut; everything was OK. Response and assistance was given to an electrical fire in the 100 block of Elm Street.
