Marion police crack down on semi traffic in town

Increased semi tractor-trailer traffic on city streets this past week has led Marion Police Department to take aggressive actions to enforce city ordinances that restrict the traffic to local deliveries only. More trucks have been observed by officers driving through town as a result of U.S.-77 construction.

Oct. 31: A warning was issued to a driver of a semi that was parked illegally. Assistance was given to a subject regarding a lost tire. A dog running at-large was picked up in the 300 block of South Third Street, Marion. Fireworks were confiscated by an officer. Assistance was provided to a sheriff's deputy with a disorderly prisoner. Several road obstructions were removed.

Tuesday: A follow-up investigation was conducted on a battery case.

Wednesday: A 911 hangup at St. Luke Hospital was checked; everything was OK. A report of stolen prescription medication was filed. An officer met with a subject regarding semis parking illegally. A DRAGNET class was conducted at Marion Elementary School.

Thursday: A subject met with an officer regarding a civil dispute. A subject met with an officer regarding a child custody dispute. A warning was issued to a semi driver who was traveling illegally on South Third Street. An officer responded to St. Luke Hospital to gather information from a subject who was involved in an accident in the county.

Friday: Vehicle identification number inspections were conducted. A subject was stopped on a complaint that occurred in the county; the matter was turned over to the sheriff's department. A missing juvenile was located and parents were notified. Lost property was recovered in Jex Addition. Response was given to a verbal domestic dispute in the 400 block of South Fourth Street. Officers responded to a two-vehicle injury accident at Santa Fe and Main streets. A subject met with an officer regarding stolen property in the 200 block of North Second Street.

Saturday: A civil dispute between neighbors occurred in the 700 block of North Cedar Street. Traffic control was provided during an ambulance run. Assistance was given to a sheriff's deputy with an accident on Sunflower Road.

Sunday: An open business door was located, checked, and secured. A hitchhiker was checked on U.S.-56. A warning citation was issued to a semi driver for illegally parking in the area of Water and South First streets.

Officers drove 766 miles and issued four warning citations.
